Available today via musicalconcepts.net/cucksonlp The album features three works on two very distinctive LP sides. Stewart Goodyear‘s “Solo; A Suite for Solo Violin” and two pivotal postwar works for solo violin: Iannis Xenakis‘s “Mikka S“ and Franco Donatoni‘s “Argot”. The unique jacket design showcases both sides of the LP with individual front covers. 12 July brings the Parnassus release of newly remastered, landmark recordings of William Primrose Viola Treasures! William Primrose is acknowledged as one of the greatest string players in the history of recording. The present release brings together two outstanding twentieth century viola concertos - the Bartók Viola Concerto conducted by the composer's artistic collaborator Tibor Serly (who also completed the work from Bartók's sketches) and William Walton's concerto conducted by the composer himself - along with an all-star Mendelssohn Octet featuring such string luminaries as Jascha Heifetz and Gregor Piatigorsky, and two trademark Primrose encores. New remastering by Paul Arden-Taylor and Gene Gaudette reveal these landmark recordings as never before.

Marina Tarasova is one of the world's leading cellists and her approach to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach is both unabashedly romantic and highly original. The present program, in which she is joined by pianist Evgeny Starodubtsev, combines Bach's gamba sonatas with a variety of transcriptions for cello and piano. “I was inspired to play these works in arrangements for cello and piano! And I wanted listeners to enjoy the beautiful sounds of the cello ‘singing’. Life is not meaningless if there is Bach in it ! But, organ or harpsichord pieces cannot sing like a cello.
