The Stonewall Library and Archives houses more than 28,000 volumes and 2,700 linear feet, or 6 million pages, of LGBTQ history.
The library also puts on special exhibitions, most recently "Stonewall 'INN' Stonewall," which includes a recreation of the Stonewall Inn from the morning of June 28, 1969, before the police raid and riot that launched the gay rights movement.
Check out our interview with Robert Kesten, executive director of the library, on the blog at arts.gov/stories!

"Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom as we recommit to addressing ongoing inequity. It is a celebration of our cultural roots as a source of strength and as a priceless life force that requires tending. It is a celebration of progress, even as we acknowledge how much further we have to go. It is celebration of truth and our commitment to tell our stories on our own terms, as we grapple with the complexities of our histories."
As we celebrate #Juneteenth , on the blog NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson writes about Juneteenth and the Promise of America. Get the story at arts.gov/stories/blog.
