I’ve been a resident in the studio of @ceola_tb & @maurik_stomps over the past month. This weekend marks the end of these weeks of molten wax with a presentation of tests and works I’ve created. We’d be delighted if you would join us as we celebrate the culmination of the residency and the beginning of spring on Friday 29th at 18h30 - 21h00. BYOB if you wish. Music and a festive waxed egg hunt will be provided. Address: Delftsestraat 29, Rotterdam

Blue Cabinet in Mixed Materials [Wood, Metal, Textile, Ceramic, Foam, Paper, Card, Glass, Acrylic and Epoxy] This cabinet has been on the shelf for a long time but is finally making its way to completion in the past month. It is made of a collection of boxes in different materials dressed in a curtain. The aim was to examine the differences between inside and outside, what at first appears as a blue cabinet reveals a collection of materials, surface finishes and textures that clash with this first perception. Personally, this has been a long experiment in breaking up layers and surfaces, mashing these together and recomposing them to create a compound object. A kind of blue throughout between interior and exterior. #blue #cabinet #design #designer #handmade #furniture #furnituredesign #construction #textures #surface #mixedmaterials

In the last weeks we have wrapped the Design Academy Eindhoven Intergenerational Graduation show in Milan. A huge experience for me personally and an adventure into the history of @designacademyeindhoven and the works of graduates from across its 75 years. I’m really proud to have led a really incredible team in production and all aspects of build-up and break-down: one entirely made up of artists and designers in their own right and the vast majority graduates of Design Academy themselves and featured in the Intergenerational Graduation Catalogue designed by @federicosantarini ⭐️. Working with this group, and in particular alongside a powerhouse of creative energy in @martina.muzi from the early stages of research, has been really special ❤️ Massive thanks to @raf_dalidali and all of the employees @designacademyeindhoven who made this possible as well as the organisation and operations of @matildelosi and @phillipppals who were fundamental in bringing this show to Milan. Ginormous thanks and kudos to the rest of the team, @schick.bianca , @basak.tuna , @flora_manon , @mymomsaysiamcute , @minji_choi___ , @k______s_____ , @nikkihurk , @jeannettepetrik , @evafailla , @crisghioldi , @sofietopi , @robertadicosmo , @matildepatuelli_ and @pro.zaziliae for all your work. Last, but certainly not least, a special thanks to every designer we had contact with during this process. It was a pleasure to deal with everyone involved and an inspiration to handle, hang and present more than 140 original graduation projects at one of the worlds largest design events. For more on the exhibition see the @designacademyeindhoven website.

Plastics appear in our worlds as insulators, covers, and casings. They protect wires from short circuits and goods during transit. Made from seven different plastics, this bed is appears as a group of inflated and deflated forms; holding air and the body during a period of isolation. This bed is one of several objects designed as part of a work entitled Causa Materialis that aims to express the ways materials are used across the built environments of our technological age. Drawing upon the functions inherent to specific families of materials found within architecture, interiors, devices, electronics and digital networks, these objects highlight the central values of materials in our digitally mediated lives. Materials, and the objects in which they appear, have properties that underpin our worlds. In increasingly digital worlds of technology and networked living these materials can be hard to find or purposefully hidden. Based upon materials collected and categorised within a sculpted material library, new material realities emerge in the form of objects that resonate with present conditions of living between the actual and the digital. This and other objects from this project can be seen at the @designacademyeindhoven graduation show as part of @dutchdesignweek . For more information drop me a DM or pop by the Beursgebouw in Eindhoven between the 16th and 24th of this month. Metals connect; both by their strength and conductive qualities. Made from three different types of metals, this desk explores how the use of metal is tied up with these productive qualities. Incorporating forms of materials that are often beyond perception (such as electronic heat sinks, high voltage electrical cable, architectural cladding and industrial moulds for mass manufacturing) this desk is envisioned as a workspace within which materials connect, and from which virtual connections are made. This desk is one of several objects designed as part of a work entitled Causa Materialis that aims to express the ways materials are used across the built environments of our technological age. Glass is typically employed as an optically transparent material, allowing information to be seen, perceived, and transmitted. It tends to disappear, showing what is behind it as the medium gives way to the message, and subsequently optical grade plastics are widely implemented these days as glass substitutes. This light combines a selection glass, fibres and plastics, merging the differences and similarities of these materials within a single object. Glass today is both natural and unnatural, fluid and solid, soft and hard. It is a vision of composite materiality, and a prime example of how materials shape, and are shaped by, technology. This light is one of several objects designed as part of a work entitled Causa Materialis that aims to express the ways materials are used across the built environments of our technological age.
