Paris Ass Book Fair

The first edition of the Brussels Ass Book Fair will take place at KANAL-Centre Pompidou from 29 November to 1 December 2024. A call for participants is now open until 30 June 2024 and can be accessed via the link in bio. After six successful editions in Paris, the Paris Ass Book Fair is joining forces with KANAL-Centre Pompidou for the first Brussels Ass Book Fair. This new Brussels-based fair dedicated to independent art publishing will host some fifty exhibitors, bringing together local, national, and international creators, authors, enthusiasts, and collectives to present books, fanzines, and editions of all kinds. Brussels Ass Book Fair will be held on both floors of K1, KANAL’s temporary venue at 1 Avenue du Port in Brussels. Alongside the fair, featuring exhibitors selling their editions, there will be a public programme, live events, and some special projects. Avec Morgane Vanehuin (Paris, FR), Rachele Borghi (Marseille, FR), Sam Bourcier (Paris, FR), Alix Juif (Paris, FR) Les centres d’archives féministes et communautaires ont joué un rôle majeur dans la révolution que connaît l’archivistique depuis les années 1970. Qu’ont-ils changé dans notre rapport à l’archive ? Comment se redéfinit l’archiviste LGBTQI+ ? Quelles nouvelles pratiques ? Pour quels publics ? Quel rôle joue la philosophie de l’archive vivante dans ce contexte ? En matière d’accessibilité, d’archivage des émotions et des affects ? Quelle est la puissance corporelle et collective de l’archive ? Les intervenant·es sont invité·es à proposer une présentation, conçue comme une performance de recherche artistique, axée sur une facette du thème de leur panel. L’objectif de chaque panel est de développer un discours exploratoire de large portée autour de la compréhension du thème en combinant les points de vues de l’histoire et de la théorie de l’art, ainsi que de sa pratique. ___ 2pm - 4pm, Sunday, 19th May Curated by Andrew Hodgson

As a performance in artistic research, speakers are asked to develop a presentation focused on a facet of interest within the theme of their panel. The goal of each panel is to develop a wide-ranging, exploratory discourse around understandings of the theme through combining aspects of the art historical, art practical, and art theoretical. @parisassbookfair

PUBLI FLUOR : TU ME FAIS ME SENTIR (TRÈS TRÈS RÉEL) Samedi 18 avril, 17h-18h Talk par Olivier Bertrand et David Le Simple (Bruxelles, BE) Autodidacte, Chrystel Crickx découpait à la main et vendait à la pièce des lettres dans son magasin Publi Fluor à Schaerbeek (Bruxelles). Découpées dans du vinyle adhésif entre 1975 et 2000 pour des usages signalétiques et publicitaires locaux, les lettres Crickx se sont d’abord disséminées à la pièce à Bruxelles, puis, à partir de 2000, sous une forme numérique et sous licence libre à l’initiative du graphiste Pierre Huyghebaert à qui Chrystel vend son stock lorsqu’elle part à la retraite. ___ PUBLI FLUOR : YOU MAKE ME FEEL (MIGHTY REAL) Saturday, April 18, 5-6 PM Talk by Olivier Bertrand and David Le Simple (Brussels, BE) Self-taught artist Chrystel Crickx used to cut out letters by hand and sell them by the piece in her store, Publi Fluor, in Schaerbeek (Brussels). From 1975 to 2000, Crickx cut these letters from adhesive vinyl for local signage and advertising purposes, and disseminated them only in Brussels at first. Then, from 2000 onwards, the letters circulated in digital form under free license at the initiative of graphic designer Pierre Huyghebaert, to whom Chrystel sold her stock when she retired. Twenty years later, the Crickx Research Group formed around this archive and produced the non-standard collective essay Publi Fluor, affaires de lettres à Bruxelles published by Surfaces Utiles. @surfacesutiles @parisassbookfair

ALICE·X AU PAYS DES ARCHIVES LGBTQI+ Exposition par le Centre d’Archives LGBTQI+ Paris IDF Alice·x au pays des archives vivantes est une balade sensible dans les fonds du Centre d’Archives LGBTQI+ Paris IDF. Le lapin rose lance une série d’invitations à faire des choses avec les archives et à être ému·e·x·s par elles. Voir, entendre, toucher, prendre, feuilleter. Cinq zones de consultation pour fréquenter nos archives sous toutes leurs formes : physiques, numériques, en papier, en bois, en plastique, en images, orales, etc. L’exposition provoque la rencontre matérielle avec les histoires de nos vies, avec nos médias, de la correspondance au magazine en passant par internet. Que ressentons-nous dans les espaces d’archive ? Comment les queerisons-nous ? Comment nous auto-archiver, devenir archivacteur·rice·x·s ? Que mobilisent en nous les archives physiquement, socialement, intellectuellement et affectivement ? ___ ALICE·X IN THE LAND OF LGBTQI+ ARCHIVES Exhibition by the Centre d’Archives LGBTQI+ Paris IDF Alice·x in the land of living archives is a sensitive stroll through the holdings of the LGBTQI+ Paris IDF Archive Center. The pink rabbit invites you to do things with the archives and be moved by them. See, hear, touch, take in, flip through. Five consultation zones to get to know our archives in all their forms: physical, digital, paper, wood, plastic, images, sound recordings, and so on. The exhibition provokes a material encounter with the stories of our lives, with our media, from correspondence to magazines to the Internet. What do we feel in archival spaces? How do we queer them?
