AB 230 requires public and charter schools in CA with students in grades 3 and up to provide free menstrual products in their bathrooms. This is an expansion of the previous CA Menstrual Equity for All Act that required menstrual products starting in the 6th grade. AB 230 goes into effect July 1st! Check out the updated California Menstrual Equity for All handbooks ( for public school districts and students!) and stay up to date on California policy updates at advocacy.period.org. 🩸 A special thank you to to all students and community organizations connected to the CA Menstrual Equity Coalition (CAMECO) and @aclu_socal for their contributions and review!

"Learning is power. There shouldn’t be a stigma around menstrual health...It doesn’t matter who you are, you should be well versed in it.” Thank you to @19thnews for highlighting the importance of comprehensive menstrual health education in the classroom and referencing the PERIOD. and Thinx 2023 State of the Period Study! Our study found that a majority (78%) of teens agree education around menstrual health should be part of the core curriculum, just like math. AB 2229 in California is an important and obvious step forward in ending the stigma surrounding menstruation. 🩸 Read more about menstrual equity activism in California with Sriya Srinivasan's latest piece on The Rag at medium.com/periodmovement. Juneteenth is a day to celebrate freedom, culture, and progress. It’s also a call to action for us to come together, and honor and continue the work of those before us who fought for Black lives, Black voices, and Black votes. This past September, PERIOD. met with Dr. Mahalingiah and Dr. Wang from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health to discuss the recent findings from the Apple Women’s Health Study on age of menarche and time to cycle regularity. The main findings of the study show that the age of menarche (first period) has gotten younger over the past few generations, the rates of early onset menarche have more than doubled, and youth of color are disproportionately affected. This data informs why we need period products and period education in school at a younger age! 🩸📣 Watch the full conversation at videos.period.org and see the full study results at the 🔗 in bio!
