reflecting today on “shall i build a dam?”, which ran from 1-4. June @muenchenerbiennale @schwerereiter this project was completely demanding and extra rewarding for me as a collaborator and performer in every respect: musically and dramatically, physically and mentally. we sang, spoke, played, moved, and danced throughout an 80-minute work that was a multi-sensory experience, running the gamut from vulgar to serene, from profound to light-hearted. i’ve rarely felt so fulfilled as a performer to bring my full set of skills to bear. (this was most clearly demonstrated by the many audience members who asked me afterwards if i was primarily a dancer, or an actor, or “just” a musician. what a compliment!) i had an absolute blast working, living with, and developing this new work for this premiere with an amazing team of collaborators and colleagues: composer @jamai_kai and the production powerhouses @aughterlonysimone and @wegmannjs , the amazing singers @chiara_bellchen @noa.frenkel and members of @knmberlin and @annetteriessner (my fellow guest instrumentalist), and support and management by so many lovelies @deutscheoperberlin @hanusasebastian @elli.neubert @asliersuzer et al et al! very excited to be in the audience @deutscheoperberlin Tischlerei space at the end of the month to watch the work live on as the amazing @justineeckhaut reclaims her piano position with the group. (most of these photos taken by el zorro de mis sueños @celestialcondemned , who was such a wonderful support and friend to me for the opening night)
