The in-laws are coming! Or maybe the cousins, sisters, brothers, or friends. Whoever may be visiting you in Maine this week, chances are you’re gonna need an itinerary. We got you! Add a museum stop to bookend your beach day (can we make Après-Beach a thing?), BBQ, or anytime you need a getaway from your getaway. See you at the PMA!

The weather has been all over the place lately, but it’s always a cool and dry at the museum. The PMA is the place to beat the heat, escape the rain, or simply visit whenever mother nature puts a dent in your outdoor adventures. See you in the galleries!

Today at PMA Films, we present “Frances Ha,” Noah Baumbach’s 2012 film starring Greta Gerwig, who the New York Times praised as having “an enviable ability to obliterate the difference between clumsiness and grace.” Frances (Gerwig) lives in New York, and wants so much more than she has but lives her life with unaccountable joy and lightness. “Frances Ha” is a modern comic fable that explores New York, friendship, class, ambition, failure, and redemption.

[ROBOT VOICE] “Come enjoy a movie this weekend.” That worked, kinda, right? Okay, maybe not, but regardless, swing by PMA Films starting tomorrow for screenings all weekend long of “Robot Dreams,” a film @empiremagazine calls, “visual storytelling at its finest.” [ROBOT VOICE] “Over and out.”

There are some great spots on the @nytimes most recent "36 Hours" in Portland, including PMA shoutouts to @jeremyfreybaskets , @reggieburrowshodges , @d1minter , and @laurenfensterstock , and we couldn't agree more. Check out all these artists—and others highlighted in @hyperallergic over the weekend as well—this week at the museum!

If you've noticed lots of change on our third floor, it's in large part due to the Alex Katz Foundation, with more than 150 new works (and counting) transforming our contemporary collection. And along with the Katz Foundation gifts, a record amount of artworks have come into the PMA collection in the last few years alone. Come check it out—you've got to see it to believe it! ... FREE SCREENING! Inspired by “Peggy Bacon: Biting, never Bitter,” all month long we’re highlighting films featuring female artists navigating their ambitions in a big city. Today at 3 p.m., you’re invited to a free screening of lost treasure of 1990s DIY filmmaking, Cauleen Smith’s “Drylongso.” Capturing the vibrant community spirit of Oakland in the nineties, Smith crafts both a rare cinematic celebration of Black female creativity and a moving elegy for a generation of lost African American men.
