Last Sunday I went to the Metropolitan Museum. I walked towards the medieval section of the museum, and I was in the middle of an exhibition called Northern Renaissance European Sculpture and Decorative Arts 1520-1630. There were several ivories in the show that reminded me of the pieces I looked closely at when I was making both “White White Swirl” and “Pillow Head”. It was a nice surprise seeing these pieces thinking about my show in Taipei. RONA PONDICK: Selected Work 2008-2023 “Pillow Head”, 2009 is on view at Nunu Fine Art from May 11th - August 4th, 2024. Painted bronze, Edition of 3 + 1 AP 10 1/4 x 14 1/2 x 15 1/2 in (26.03 x 36.83 x 39.37 cm) Pillow Head is one of the six sculptures I am showing in Taipei with Nunu Fine Art. I learned that in Chinese a pillow could mean putting your head on a pillow and some said the title could be literally translated as pillow head head. Pigmented resin and acrylic, Unique. 34 x 8 3/16 x 9 13/16 in (86.36 x 20.79 x 24.92 cm) In White White Swirl, my tiny head grows out of a twisting forms as if it’s turning itself inside out. Exposed on the top and submersed in the acrylic block, the head and body are mirrored like Narcissus, the character from Greek mythology who saw his own reflection in a pool of water. The encased form suggests swimming, dreaming, birth and drowning. Are these twisting forms intestines that morph into a head, or a tornado motion and emotion? #nunufineart #thaddaeusropac #sonnabend #contemporarysculptures #sculptureart #femaleartist #femalesculptor

At Nunu Fine Art, Taipei, I am showing 6 sculptures from 2008-2023. Four of the six sculptures are cast in bronze and painted white. Yes, I know they look like porcelain, a material I am madly in love with, but a material far too fragile for sculptures like this. Because I work with extreme scale changes in individual sculptures they wouldn’t last very long. I started experimenting and discovered I could work in metal and paint them to look like porcelain. Porcelain is a beautiful material and I am flattered so many people think they look like it. RONA PONDICK: Selected Work 2008-2023 “Dwarfed White Jack”, 2010-12 is on view at Nunu Fine Art from May 11th - August 4th, 2024. Arrived in Taipei and I was in much better shape than I expected. After we did what we could for the day Robert and I were excited to see Taipei with Nunu. What an amazing eating city! Today we start installing “Dwarfed White Jack” and the other pieces. Then we can really explore Taipei. Painted bronze, Edition of 3 + 1 AP 8 1/2 x 35 x 23 1/2 in (46.99 x 88.9 x 59.69 cm) In “Dwarfed White Jack “ I integrated my head with an invented tree. Using computer technology, I miniaturized my head and attached my heads, so they appear to grow out of the branches, mimicking buds on a tree.
