QUEEN OMOSEDE IDIA
(The IYOBA of Benin Kingdom ) The costume is a contemporal representation of Sectra as Queen Idia who was the 1st woman Warlord in the old benin Empire. History has it that she used her magical powers and knowledge of Medicine to help her son overcome his enemies. She was one of the best known female soldiers ever from the Benin Kingdom. She was a fearless Army General who led the Armies of Benin on several successful battles. Queen idia fought in the IDIAH war between the Benin’s and the Igala people. OBA Esigie instituted the title of iyoba (queen mother) and conferred it on his mother, along with Eguae-Iyoba (Palace of the Queen Mother).
IVIE (coral bead) connotes royalty and culture of the great Benin empire. The “OKUKU” head wear represents the glory of every edo woman and symbol of royalty
QUEEN IDIA IVORY MASK became more popular when it was decided that her face should be used as a sculpture to represent a Nigerian Festival FESTAC ‘77, that was how the face of the Queen Mother came into art till the present day.
The costume captures Sectra fearless features and her willing heart to transcend borders, upholding her beliefs and becoming an inspiration figure across the globe.
