As summer continues to heat up, we can't help but think of @nyc_eja_ !!re!!_039;s CHAMP-EJ report, which revealed that #AirQuality measurements in the environmental justice neighborhoods of the South Bronx and Brooklyn showed levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution up to 18x greater and 49x greater (for mobile and fixed measurements, respectively) than the nearest government-run monitors that report hourly values. Released on the heels of @govkathyhochul_ !!re!!_039;s shocking decision to indefinitely postpone implementing #CongestionPricing , the detailed report, which was created in collaboration with community-based organizations @elpuentepresente , @golesnyc , @thepointcdc , @uprosebrooklyn , @nosquedamos , and other research partners not only highlights various 2022 heat and air pollution research findings, but it also includes policy recommendations for the City and State to reduce air quality and heat vulnerability disparities in low income communities of color. We love to see our grantees out in the world making major strides toward real environmental justice! In the fall of 2021, @epagov Administrator Michael Regan took a trip to Louisiana to visit some of our grantees, @risestjames , community organization @ccostjohn , and other community stakeholders so that he could listen while they voiced their concerns around overall air quality, the devastating impact cancer has had on every family in their area, and how previous EPA administrations have failed to address the systemic issues that created Cancer Alley. Fast forward to this past April, Administrator Regan signed the groundbreaking HON rule into effect, which will set tighter limits on the amounts of hazardous chemicals that can be released into the air by chemical plants in the area, mostly benefitting vulnerable communities like people of color and children. Even more recently, the EPA has passed similar clean air regulations in other high-risk communities across the nation with the hopes of dramatically reducing the numbers of people with air toxics-related cancer risks everywhere. Earlier this month, our grantee @uprosebrooklyn participated in the National Puerto Rican Day Parade, which aims to create awareness and appreciation of Puerto Rican culture and history, as well as highlight the community’s contributions to the global society. As Brooklyn's oldest Latino community-based organization, UPROSE continues to demonstrate their enduring commitment to environmental justice, community empowerment, and transformative action by championing community-driven environmental solutions in order to work toward a just transition. It's #Juneteenth , a time to not only celebrate the emancipation of enslaved African American people in the United States, but to also reflect on the atrocities and inequalities that African Americans have faced throughout history and in the present day. The recently created holiday takes into account that although President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, the new law was not widely enforced throughout the entire United States. For example, in Galveston, Texas, it took until two and a half years later, on June 19, 1865, for many enslaved people to learn they had been freed. The Solutions Project believes in a world created by all of us for all of us. We want to live in a society that not only amplifies the radical ideas and hard work from those whose voices typically might go unheard, but we also want to live in one that makes equity a priority, especially for Black people. Today and every day, we acknowledge, uplift, and stand in solidarity with the Black community as they continue to contribute so much to our culture and work on the frontlines to make the world a better place.

We're thrilled to release PSE For Healthy Energy CO2 Emissions Impact Analysis in partnership with PSE Healthy Energy! (For the full report - link in bio) PSE Healthy Energy conducted a review of awards granted by The Solutions Project from 2021-2023, focusing on projects with direct, measurable CO2 reductions. One standout example is the replacement of a gas generation plant with wind power & other clean energy and will put the power plant on track to cut nearly 1 million tons of carbon emissions per year, the equivalent of taking nearly 200,000 cars off the road 🚗💨 But the impact doesn't stop there. We're thrilled to release the 2023 IMPACT ASSESSMENT REPORT in partnership with @frontlinesol . Our latest research shows that funding local frontline climate groups increases impact, as they create solutions benefiting both local communities and the planet. TSP grantee partners are at the forefront, balancing depth and scale to foster cultural, social, and power-building changes necessary for systemic transformation. A prime example is our grantee partner @pushbuffalo who scaled a green development zone from 5 to 20 blocks in #Buffalo , NY. They also lead the @nyrenews coalition, which achieved the landmark Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). This act not only sets the gold standard for state climate policy but also inspired the federal Justice40 Initiative, ensuring 40% of federal climate investments benefit underserved communities.
