Walter Sickert’s ‘Reclining Nude (Le lit de cuivre)’ is on loan for the #SothebysLondon summer exhibition, ‘London: An Artistic Crossroads.’ Coming to us from the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery, Sickert’s ‘Reclining Nude (Le lit de cuivre)’ presents a diametrically opposed view of the city. In a dingy room painted livid green, we’re met with a naked woman lying on top of the covers of an unmade bed, her form sketched forth by a thick expressive brushstrokes. The Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery is best known for its outstanding international collections of ethnography and natural sciences, as well as objects showcasing Exeter and Devon’s rich history. ‘Reclining Nude (Le lit de cuivre)’ is now on view at our #SothebysLondon New Bond Street galleries until 5 July. Dame Magdalene Odundo’s ‘Tall Bottle’ is on loan for the #SothebysLondon summer exhibition, ‘London: An Artistic Crossroads.’ Coming to us from the School of Art, Museum and Galleries, Aberystwyth University, ‘Tall Bottle’ in its form is that of an archetypal amphora, made to resemble a human being in unexpectedly vivid ways. The School of Art Museum and Galleries is an accredited museum making an invaluable contribution to the teaching and research activities of the University. Their collections offer primary research material for student, staff and public reference and the Galleries run a regular program of public exhibitions. ‘Tall Bottle’ is now on view at our #SothebysLondon New Bond Street galleries until 5 July. After writing the final novel in the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling decided to create The Tales of Beedle the Bard and give a handwritten copy to “those most closely connected to the Harry Potter books during the past 17 years.” This one is inscribed, “To Barry, the man who thought an overlong novel about a boy wizard in glasses might just sell… THANK YOU.” The only one of the original 6 to ever be offered at auction, this copy is featured in the ‘Fine Books and Manuscripts, Including Americana’ sale closing 28 June at 12PM ET at #SothebysNewYork . This late 15th-century painting attributed to Botticelli had been considered a studio production until cleaning and examination with infrared reflectography brought about a reassessment. Scholars have recently considered it very likely executed in large part, if not entirely, by the master himself. How do we know? Another fantastic auction room moment for artist Lucy Bull! After breaking her record for ‘16:10’ sold at #SothebysNewYork this past May, ‘10:00’ nearly doubled its high estimate at last night’s #SothebysLondon Modern & Contemporary Evening Auction, fetching  £900k.   In ‘10:00’ Lucy Bull reimagined No Doubt’s ‘Spiderwebs’—the opening track on their legendary album Tragic Kingdom—to create a psychedelic Surrealist dreamscape.   The Summer Season, presented in partnership with @uksothebysrealty , continues next week with our Old Masters sale series beginning 3 July. Lucian Freud’s ‘John Minton’ is on loan for the #SothebysLondon summer exhibition, ‘London: An Artistic Crossroads.’ Coming to us from the Royal College of Art is a painfully acute portrait of John Minton. The style in which the picture is painted recalls the altarpieces of early Renaissance Flanders. The Royal College of Art, founded in 1837, is the world’s leading university of art and design. Watch @newmanhelena bring the hammer down on Renoir’s ‘Bouquet de lilas’ at £6.9M—more than 2X its high estimate—after a nearly 10-minute bidding battle.   ’Bouquet de lilas’ stands as one of Renoir’s best floral compositions, striking a perfect balance between his technical virtuosity and bold experimentation.
