For 'The Solemn Process', Lupas collaborated with the inhabitants of two rural villages near her hometown Cluj, Romania. Based on her instructions, the villagers made structures from wheat, then placed them in the surrounding nature and in the farmyards. Swipe to see pictures of these original structures.
Lupas had hoped that, over the years, more people would participate to expand the installation, but the political restrictions and worsening economic situation by mid-1970s made this difficult.
To preserve the concept and the original shape of the works, Lupas developed the metal casings displayed in this room. Have you seen the work already? ✨
