Today is the first day that Alexis Blake's performance 'rock to jolt [ ] stagger to ash' will be performed again. With this performance, Alexis Blake won the Prix de Rome 2021. The performances are sold out but luckily we can share a trailer with you! The trailer was shot in an empty Stedelijk Museum during the January lockdown 👀 Through 'rock to jolt [ ] stagger to ash', @a.l.e.x.i.s.b.l.a.k.e investigates the way in which the body is represented and treated as an archive, which she then critically examines, disrupts, and re-negotiates. During the era succeeding the Second World War, change was imminent. It was a time of struggles for independence, new political views, ideological clashes, and philosophical revolutions. Through design the social changes became visible. Using accessible printing processes, such as screen and stencil printing, posters became the medium of choice to proclaim the messages of the "protest generation." From Cuba to Vietnam, from the streets of Paris to those of Amsterdam, from the suffragettes, from freedom from colonial rule to freedom from the A-bomb, these artefacts illustrate the power of words and images to compel revolutionary change.
