In this #SLAMin60 , we take a closer look at Romare Bearden’s Summertime. Bearden was able to find inspiration for most of his works through jazz, exploring themes like repetition and improvisation through his collage practices. In Summertime, we see Bearden’s playful placement of the individual elements of the work coming together in a collage to capture the liveliness of a summer day.
This summer, be sure to spend some time with Summertime in Romare Bearden: Resonances, on view now until September 15.
“Why does this person have so many horses?” 🐎🐴
Our newest Rendez-View features SLAM collection works created by LGBTQ+ artists. Visitors and staff were asked impromptu questions about how they view and interpret these artworks. Here’s what they had to say! 🎤
Thank you to those who rendez-viewed with us in the galleries. Where will we rendez-view next? Stay tuned for our next episode, coming this July.
