Wrote about the powerful new sculpture by Jim Hodges unveiled at New York City’s AIDS Memorial Park. Taking the form of a closet filled with clothes and boxes of personal items, “Craig’s closet” honors the more than 100,000 New Yorkers who have died of AIDS and offers a moment of private and shared mourning. Hodges embraces the many meanings of closets, from places to conceal objects to time capsules preserving our various selves. Hodges’ closet remains forever open for viewers to connect with the work with whatever experiences and emotions they bring with them. The public sculpture is on view in the Memorial for the next year.
