It’s the last week to explore Batik painting in our Innovators LAB! 🎨✨ In this workshop, we invite participants to experiment with watercolor and hot glue, creating art inspired from ancient textile painting techniques. This painting style originated in Southeast Asia over 2000 years ago. 🪩🌈 An exciting new toddler space is coming to NCM! Get ready to shake, bop, and groove because DISCO RAINBOW CAVE is opening this Saturday, June 29 on our upper level! 🪩🌈 We are once again collaborating with the incredibly talented and award-winning artist, Tanya Aguiñiga (she/her) ( @tanyaaguiniga ) to bring this unique toddler installation to life. 🎨 Tanya is the artist who brought us our Tikitiko installation, which is currently being transformed to the Disco Rainbow Cave, a special 4-and-under space, designed for toddlers and their families to enjoy a one-of-a-kind disco experience. Whether your little ones head straight to the dance floor, play with our spinning “lava lamps,” practice their moves in the “dance studio,” or simply soak in the funky vibes of this brand-new environment, this installation is bound to leave the whole family grooving for the rest of the day. ✨🕺💃 Come explore your inner Bee Gee and join us at The New Children’s Museum for an unforgettable dance adventure! 🪩🌈✨ This art installation is supported in part by David + Patsy Marino.

Join us in celebrating The New Children's Museum's Chief Strategic Advancement Officer, Rebekah Hook-Held (she/her) for being recognized as an LGBTQ+ Leader of Influence by the San Diego Business Journal this month during Pride Month! ✨ Rebekah joined the NCM team last August and has already made a significant impact on the Museum. Rebekah is a respected senior leader throughout the region, known for her strong relationship-building skills, extensive management experience, political acumen, and results-oriented strategic planning. Before joining NCM, Rebekah spent nearly a decade at The San Diego LGBT Community Center, where she held the position of Chief Public Affairs & Civic Engagement Officer for six years. During her tenure, Rebekah became a veteran member of The Center’s Senior Team, leading the legislative policy, public affairs, and justice-focused advocacy and communications efforts on behalf of The Center. Rebekah and her wife, Shawna, have been married since 2015 and they are proud parents to their two young children. Help us to congratulate Rebekah on this well-deserved honor!🎉 🎉

We are thrilled to share some joy from our Mass Creativity workshop with Barrio Logan College Institute! ✨ The NCM team was joined by over 40 enthusiastic attendees who immersed themselves in a variety of creative activities. Participants enjoyed making flowers 🌼 and butterflies 🦋 to adorn spaceships for Mass Creativity Day, creating leaf rubbings and watercolor paintings, writing notes to the future for a special time capsule, crafting clay seed pots with Indigenous California plants🌱 , and designing clay amulets. We were honored to have our 2024 collaborating artist, Chelle Barbour (she/her), join us. It was a truly special moment as she witnessed attendees engage in the workshops she helped to create. A heartfelt thank you to our 2024 Community Partners, including the Barrio Logan College Institute ( @barriologancollegeinstitute ), which has been a valued partner for many years. Their after-school college readiness program supports youth who will be the first in their families to attend university. #ThinkPlayCreate
