Ami Wong, a recent 2022 graduate, works full-time as the Student Capacity and Coalition Building Fellow at the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity.
As someone who both works in one of the identity and cultural centers at Duke, and also identifies with the queer community, Ami sees herself on the frontline for engaging with students and staff and being the liaison between the two.
"There's so many spaces and resources that Duke offers, and part of being a freshman is just being able to navigate everything that Duke has and then finding something that is so specific that you really get to feel like it really crafts the sense of belonging by the time you're near the end of your student journey.
What I love the most about Duke is the people. I think Duke has a lot of opportunities where you really get to find your group.
There's definitely so many different communities and groups that exist at Duke that it really gives you a chance to explore and find out where you really want to belong. I don't think there's a specific way that you have to be or that anyone has to be to like come in here. There's no prerequisite, we'll always be here no matter what."
