I made some fresh shirts (and they’re in the story highlights below my bio). Hand painted and one of a kind!! Safe to wash and perfect for summer, spring, fall, and also winter 🦋 thank you to my studiomate @jackarthurwood for this picture, and for buying one for your mom.

I’m building some new panels, a process I like to do myself because it took me a long time to figure out a support for painting that felt like it was in line with my work…these have a delicate, wavering edge, like a piece of paper (with the cradle inset away from the edges, so you don’t see it)…I want them to feel like they’re in conversation with drawing, and also like they’re taking on a life of their own 🌱🔨 also, I’m not sure what’s up with the algorithm but it seems like very few people see my art posts anymore? so, here’s a ritual sacrifice to the altar of selfie. I have some paintings I’m not sharing yet, but if you’re curious about them, feel free to reach out.

I love my friends, who are always up for an adventure (and in some cases also put up with me being a grumpy burn out, thank you @notfunnynotcute and @kirakastner , I don’t deserve you)…being a ‘professional artist’ often feels exhausting, demoralizing, and at odds with what’s important in this world (caring about the humans and non humans being violently destroyed by the unhinged workings of imperialist white supremacist capitalist patriarchy?🙃) …I feel exceedingly privileged that I have been able to go camping recently, and reminded that cacti don’t give any fucks about whether you have gallery representation. Here are some pics from Havasupai land, aka ‘the grand canyon’, and somewhere around ‘Fahnestock state park’ where we definitely weren’t meant to ride touring bikes on an decommissioned road/bog, and a little tour with @ken_ay through Wabenaki and N’dakina (Vermont)🚲

Eating my words to post a total spoiler (this new painting: ‘Loud Flower’, oil on panel, 65 x 47.5 in). I’m making a whole bunch more (bodily, carnivalesque) paintings as well but those are in fact secret and you have to come to my studio in person if you want to see them.

2023 highlights, vertical edition!! Vic (in general, and also in this instance, while seeing some art), making the most of beach day in less than ideal conditions (wind), making the most of Toronto park bday in less than ideal conditions (rain), other cute Toronto times, another beach day (Fire Island, better conditions), bike demons reunited, studio hangs, protest puppetry with Bread and Puppet, and, becoming an art bro

2023, some highlights, horizontal edition: temporary but perfect studio space, brief but delightful double bday (Toronto half shown here), Yukon hiking with adorable people, local biking with adorable people, that time Heather and I did the ´presidential traverse’ in 2 days, biking and camping alone for the first time, Montreal with Vic (most adorable person I know), running in Prospect Park, and somehow, improbably, living in New York

Learning how to oil paint was my main studio project in 2023 (besides moving to New York and figuring out how to survive)…looking forward to making these more complex (and finding more applications for very intense orange/green combinations). Here’s ‘Morpho Blue’ (oil on panel, 32.25 x 45 in, 2023)…indebted to Evelyn Statsinger, Martin Johnson Heade, and my ambivalence towards ‘natural history’ Xoxo

detail of “Morpho Blue” (2023), which is an homage to Evelyn Statsinger’s wicked colour schemes, among other things
