#WidewallsMagazine We Design Beirut is a labor of love, passion, and conviction. This was palpable in everything witnessed and experienced, as well as in every conversation held. It was as real as the people behind it—a small team of dedicated professionals who created an exceptional and meaningful event against all odds. Born from a vision fueled by hard work, hope, perseverance, and dedication, We Design Beirut (@wedesignbeirut ) aimed to revive Lebanon and its design identity and demonstrate the immense creativity of Beirut. "Creativity is the heartbeat of Beirut and it is our intention and aim to make sure it is brought back to life once again by reintroducing the world to Lebanon through our very own lens," said Mariana Wehbe (@marianawehbepr ) in an exclusive Widewalls Interview. When Mariana proposed the idea of We Design Beirut to Samer (@sameralameen ), he enthusiastically embraced it right away, describing the suggested title of the event as a call to action. "At one time, design was about articulating form, function, materials, and meaning," Samer says, "but nowadays it's more about articulating systems, questions, issues and scenarios, as well as ways of enacting them." #WidewallsMagazine "As soon as I finished the Western Mechanics image, it was clear to me what the title of the exhibition would be. I had made a custom jacket for that work—and it was that exact phrase "Western Mechanics" that embodied the push and pull of man versus machine—the current status of our world that I wanted to explore, as well as the state of the West - what it was versus what it has become, and all the dreaming in between," said Alex Prager (@alexprager ) in an exclusive Widewalls Interview. Her latest exhibition, Western Mechanics, marks her first solo show with Lehmann Maupin (@lehmannmaupin ) in Seoul and her eighth with the gallery. Rich in cultural references and historical allegory, this series of emotionally charged vignettes offers viewers multiple entry points into evocative and imaginative worlds, probing the liminal spaces of the human condition. Western Mechanics reflects Prager's fascination with contemporary existence, utilizing her signature vibrant aesthetics and complex compositions to explore themes of transformation, uncertainty, and the passage of time. #WidewallsMagazine "Watching an accomplished artist like Daniel Arsham add his distinct style to the message and the imagery of 'The Lorax' has been a joy, and we look forward to sharing this dynamic collaboration with our fans and the contemporary art world at large.", expresses Susan Brandt, President and CEO of Dr. Seuss Enterprises. Aligning with the celebrations of Earth Day, Dr. Seuss Enterprise launches a sustainable capsule collection illustrated and designed by Daniel Arsham (@danielarsham ), drawing inspiration from The Lorax's characters and imaginary landscapes. Fusing literature, art, and sustainability, the limited edition collection features a landmark reinterpretation of the artbook, hand-drawn by Arsham, and prints, both produced out of 100% recycled paper. These are complemented by apparel, a hoodie, a long-sleeve made from eco-cycle materials, and a sustainable porcelain tray bearing motifs from the reimagined narrative. #ArtOfTheDay 'Elegy' by Miguel Rothschild (@rothschildmiguel ) Rothschild's Elegy mimics the movement of the ocean, stopping its waves, suspending them in the air or rolling them down as if they were following a road made of stairs. Everything, even the cables he uses to create these games, manages in some way to emphasize that idea of saving nature he carries on with his art, impersonating rays of sun or raindrops. . . . . . . . . . #contemporaryart #elegy #installationart #sitespecific #sitespecificart #artinstallation #miguelrothschild #artlover #artlovers

#ArtOfTheDay 'One, Two, Three, Four' by Casper Wackerhausen-Sejersen (@caspersejersenstudio ) “I like to shoot simple things because then you can put your own stories onto the objects instead of having something described too clearly in front of you,” says Sejersen. “With this body of work it’s about objects I have always loved, sometimes very generic objects like matches or a glass. Of course, I have to make my pictures in a way I believe in and then it’s up to the viewer to create their own kind of vision from what they’re looking at. But I try to avoid looking into things too much. I would rather be inspired by music or a poem or by something from daily life.” Text via anothermanmag.com . . . . . . . . . #contemporaryart #contemporaryphotography #caspersejersen #artlover #artlovers #photooftheday #photoseries #artphotography #photographynow

#ArtOfTheDay 'The Heirloom Era' by Amanda Nolan Booker (@amandanolanbooker ) "Everything leaves its mark. Moments. Memories. The way the light hits. A good day. There are things that cling to us. Lost things stay too, in their way. A face, once familiar, now flits in and out. A muddied silhouette, but no less important for its distortion. The things that shape us, in turn, change their shape over time, whether in a series of imperceptible movements or some seismic shift—as we age, when we hurt, when we love. My work considers the uncertain areas of these changes, the relationship between stillness and progression. Using nostalgia as a vantage point, I paint both intuitively and from memory. The imagery I use serves as a conduit for the subject matter, which remains unseen: feelings of presence, absence, lingering, longing, a sense of ephemerality, and residual impression." . . . . . . . . #artlover #artlovers #paintingoftheday #flowerpainting #contemporarypainting #artprocess

#WidewallsMagazine "Everything Precious is Fragile offers an exploration into Yoruba Gèlèdé traditions, an ancient Afro-feminist philosophy that is rooted in the delicacy and fragility of nurture, care and kindness. It is vital to me to explore these notions of feminism that have been suppressed through various manifestations of the prevailing issue of Miranda Fricker's notion of epistemic injustice that is more acutely problematised with indigenous cultures", states Azu Nwagbogu. Nwagbogu (@azubogu ), together with his curatorial team comprised of Yassine Lassissi and Franck Houndégla, has chosen four distinguished artists to represent Benin (@benin_pavilion ): Chloé Quenum, Moufouli Bello, Ishola Akpo, and Romuald Hazoumè. Each artist's unique perspective and methodology contribute to a harmonious narrative, inviting visitors to engage deeply with a multifaceted array of ideas and reflections. #ArtOfTheDay 'Dew Point I' by Lily Clark (@lilyyill ) is the first work in a new series of sculptures that explores the archetypal, spherical shape of water. “Wherever water occurs it tends to take on a spherical form. It envelops the whole sphere of the earth, enclosing every object in a thin film. Water will always attempt to form an organic whole by joining what is divided and uniting it in circulation.” — Sensitive Chaos, Theodor Schwenk / water, superhydrophobic ceramic, pump / Video by @lachlanturczan . . . . . . . . . . . #contemporaryart #waterfeatures #contemporarysculpture #lilyclark #artlover #artlovers #waterinart #waterart #contemporaryartist #discoverart #artinspiration
