Join us in the Glass Studio for Fantasy Faire, on June 22 and 23! Artists Sukayna El Hani and Ariel Mazzola will join us from Hot Sand in Asbury Park, NJ. Watch as these artists mesmerize with iridescent glass vessels and sculptures. Starting her artistic journey as a painter, she has discovered her true medium through glass, drawing inspiration from Art Nouveau and Moroccan art and architecture. Sukayna received her BFA in Craft and Material Studies (2019) from Virginia Commonwealth University and interned at the Chrysler Glass Studio and Starworks Glass Studio. She currently works at Hot Sand in Asbury Park, NJ as hot shop assistant manager. Sukayna was recently a resident artist at Pilchuck Glass School’s Better Together 2024 residency. In October, she will be going to Morocco to teach glass blowing where they have recently built the first educational center for glass in the country, L'institut des Arts Traditionnels de Meknes.  @a_glasstreasures is an emergent American multi-disciplinary artist, working primarily in glass. She earned her BFA in fine arts from New England College in 2015 and an Associate degree from Salem Community College in Scientific Glass Apparatus in 2018. During her time at school, she worked in the scientific industry at Glastron in Vineland NJ, and began blowing glass at Hot Sand NJ in 2016. In 2022, Ariel became the hot shop manager of Hot Sand as lead gaffer. If you have been to the Glass Studio, you know how nice it is to see the doors open and feel a cool breeze, especially in this heat! Open doors have meant some neighbors, including Mona, feel right at home. Mona has been a regular visitor to the studio for the last decade. She comes and goes as she pleases, and we do our best to give her lots of pets and treats while she’s here. She’s elusive but very sweet. Have you met the shop cat yet? Stop by Thursday - Sunday, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., and you might find her sleeping underneath a reheating chamber. Glass Studio Manager Katey Murphy and Craft Studios Manager Phyllis Seidner-Vesely here! We went on a field trip last week to Winterthur in Delaware. We got a behind-the-scenes tour of the conservation labs and learned about @ud_artconservation conservation student's and material culture studies student's research on this sprawling, nature-filled campus. There were many things to see, including a must-try recipe for jellied tongue, a room full of soup tureens, and fascinating presentations on the conservation of historic objects.
