The newest iteration of “Object Lab” is now open, giving summer visitors a chance to see our teaching mission in action! Eight fall 2024 courses here @williamscollege will be using Object Labs regularly in the fall, including Professor Brittany Meché’s Environmental Studies 450 seminar class. Listen here as Liz Gallerani, our Curator of Mellon Academic Programs, talks about one artwork being used in that class—the 19th century “View of Williams College Looking East from Williamstown, Massachusetts” painting—always delights students and ties back into our Rotunda exhibition of plan for our new museum building, set to open in 2027. Come see “Object Lab,” “SO–IL \ WCMA: Building a New Museum,” “Emancipation: The Unfinished Project of Liberation,” and more, from 10 to 5 every day except Monday! #wcma #williamscollege #objectlab #teachingwithart

Today we celebrate Juneteenth and the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in this country. “Emancipation: The Unfinished Project of Liberation,” on view at @williamsartmuseum through July 14, visualizes what freedom looks like for Black Americans today and highlights the perspectives of contemporary Black artists. The exhibition features commissioned and recent works alongside Civil War materials from local institutions and historically relevant objects from WCMA’s collection. ▶️ Visit our link in bio to tour the exhibition from home with Destinee Filmore MA’23, former Mellon Curatorial Fellow.

Tomorrow is Juneteenth, and we’re making the holiday with a special program in conjunction with our "Emancipation: The Unfinished Project of Liberation" exhibition! Join us here at WCMA at 10:30 to hear educational storyteller Desiree Taylor read aloud Opal Lee’s “Juneteenth, a Children’s Story” and then lead the community in discussion. Afterward, head up to the "Emancipation" exhibition to engage in conversation as a family using works of art and prompted questions to guide your visit. Our friends from the Milne Library will also be here with books that you can check out to bring home with you! This program is geared for 7- to 12-year-olds and their families and/or caregivers, but all are welcome. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. #wcma #williamscollege #juneteenth #emancipation

We wanted to give a huge shout out to our most recent cohort of Mellon Curatorial Fellows, the last of whom—@nicholas_liou — departed on Friday. 👏 👏 👏 Nick, @desdoesmore , and @hortonn_ worked full-time here at WCMA while simultaneously earning their MAs in the Grad Art program here at @williamscollege over the last few years. From working WALLS pickup days to giving tours to alumni and others to helping with the collection assessment work in preparation for the move to our new building, these three Fellows were invaluable additions to our staff. Nick is going on to pursue his PhD at Yale University this fall. Destinee left in January to become Assistant Curator in the Modern and Contemporary Department at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Jordan left last summer and now is working on some amazing art projects in their home state of New Jersey and surrounding areas. 🔥 We can’t wait to watch all the wonderful things they will do, and we are excited to welcome a new cohort of Fellows this fall! 🎉 #wcma #williamscollege #mellonfellows #fellows

Reunion weekend is starting today here at @williamscollege , and have we got a treat for you (looking especially at you, ’14 and ’19-ers!). Ten years ago, in 2014, we launched our WALLS (Williams Art Loan for Living Spaces) program that put amazing artwork in the dorms of students twice a year. We are delighted to welcome back our 2014 grad first-ever borrowers and our 2019 alum who got four full years of WALLS as we celebrate 10 years of the program. So what’s the celebration? Stop on over to WCMA today through Sunday, 10-5, to see an amazing exhibition of all 125 WALLS artwork, program materials, student journals, and more, curated by 2024 grad Imogen Mandl-Ciolek with assistance from Rachel Heisler, WCMA’s Associate Curator of Campus and Community Engagement. Staff will be in the galleries all four days to talk to visitors about this unique and popular program! And on Saturday from 1-3, even more staff will be around to chat throughout the museum as we host an open house to showcase not just the WALLS exhibition but our new building plans and all of the other exhibitions currently on view, too! So see you at the museum 😊 #wcma #walls #wcmawalls #williamscollege #williamsreunion #reunion
