Built in 1348 by Genoeses, the Galata Tower (in Turkish: Galata Kulesi, in Latin: Christea Turris "Tower of Christ") is one of the most important symbols in Istanbul's history. Having a restaurant on one of the top floors, one can also enjoy the marvellous aura on the tower's balcony with a 360° view of Istanbul; the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus, and Taksim. This tower is also mentioned in the so-called story (17th century) of Hazerfan Ahmet Celebi, "Polymath Ahmet the Wise", who was claimed to fly from the very top of the tower with artificial bird wings and then land on Uskudar which is on the other side of the Bosphorus.
