🥳It's our BIRTHDAY!!!🥳 For 29 years we have worked in under-resourced communities to help children escape the cycle of poverty. We have provided nearly 900 classrooms, toilet units, kitchens and libraries to pre-schools and primary schools throughout South Africa. Along with our supporters, we are very proud to have made a difference in the lives of countless children. Since the start of Covid, we focused our efforts toward emergency feeding in poor communities and to date we have been able to serve 4 million meals. Again, this is only possible with the support of our generous donors! Currently, we continue to support 16 pre-schools and 5 community kitchens to ensure that our young beneficiaries get a warm, healthy meal once a day. Thank you to every single person who has contributed to the work we do. Without you, we would not have been able to impact the lives of our beneficiaries. There is still so much to be done and we are close to reaching our target of 1000 infrastructure units by 2023. We also continue our feeding programme by serving 50,000 meals a month. Every child deserves the right to enjoy a safe and secure childhood and Breadline Africa will continue to establish a foundation of greatness for as many children as we can. #enablingfutures #openingimagination

World hunger is an issue that persists in society, and in South Africa, it is no different, with about 40% of South Africans going to bed hungry every night. According to recent studies, approximately 2.3 million households reported child hunger. Since the start of Covid-19, Breadline Africa made a humanitarian decision to direct resources towards community feedback programmes to alleviate hunger and malnutrition. Currently, we support 21 feeding sites, providing more than 50 000 meals a month. On #WorldHungerDay , we want to draw attention to the hunger crisis and malnutrition, especially in youth. Young people are particularly vulnerable, with it causing stunted growth, impaired motor and cognitive development, and severe nutritional deficiencies. This significantly impacts their ability to perform in school. Please consider making a donation today and help fight child hunger. We were thrilled when Gordon Laws from @turtlebirdbooks - author of the children's book, A Penguine Called Dave, contacted us to donate copies of his book to schools where Breadline Africa has placed a library. Gordon, together with his company, Paymentology, has made it possible to distribute copies to these schools where children will have access to this beautiful story for years to come, and fall in love with reading. The book tells of the adventures of Dave and his aquatic friends who live off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa. Thank you to Gordon, Turtlebird Books and Paymentology for acknowledging the importance of education and literacy for every single child. If you would to get your own copy of the book, A Penguin Called Dave, visit Turtlebird Books and purchase a copy - / #enablingfutures #openingimagination

WE WENT TO THE SEASIDE! 😁👫🐟🦀☀️💚🌊⛱ Breadline Africa believes new experiences broaden children's horizons! The seaside initiative we run once a year is a fantastic way to allow children to experience the magic of the seaside. Many of these little ones have never been to the beach. We just love the excitement and joy we see on their faces as they begin to experience all the wonders of the seaside. Even Santa stopped by to bring joy (and gifts). This is a day we get to action our mission of #enablingfutures and #openingimagination ! Here is a sneak peek of how the day unfolded.

#SheShinesForOthers During the global pandemic, women have been on the front lines. They have been inspiring; as caregivers, providers, community organisers and leaders. Asking for nothing but giving their everything to those that need them. We salute and celebrate the endless power of these women. We are proud to work with you all. This #womensday we challenge you to help us to support these incredible women. They are holding up their communities in these times and need your help. Donate today and support a woman who shines for others: /donate/ #womensday #enablingfutures #openingimagination

A few days ago we received a message from Asanda who runs one of the feeding projects in an informal settlement in Macassar Village. The wood was wet and cooking on an open fire was impossible. Asanda Blou is 25 and father of two year old twins. Long before the lockdown, Asanda used his wages to buy loaves of bread which he cut in half and handed out to the people in his community. When the lockdown started, just like many people Asanda was laid off but this did not stop him from feeding his community. Twice a week he cooks food on an open fire at the back of his shack serving the children first, then the elderly and if anything is left, the rest of the community. Asanda had only one 15 litre pot which served 80 small portions. We used some donations to buy him a bigger pot, dry ingredients and vegetables. During the downpours, he was unable to light the wood but he didn't give up. He borrowed an old gas stove and ensured that those in the community could still receive a hot meal. His determination and depth of caring is what makes him stand out. He is so humble too. As desperate as he is to provide for his own family each day he has the same desire to help his community. When Selina, our donor care manager, spoke to Asanda, he told her how far people come to get a bowl of food and one thing that struck her was that even those living in the surrounding low cost housing also join the feeding line. He said “ We are all in the same boat — unemployed and nothing to eat” Thank you to all our donors for helping people like Asanda feed the most vulnerable in his community. If you would like to help people like Asanda, please make a donation on our website: /donate-2/ or click the link in our bio. Every little bit helps! #enablingfutures #lockdownfeeding #giveback

Every Tuesday and Friday, the school bell is rung at 12:45pm and each learner enters the school wearing their school uniform, carrying an empty bowl that will be filled with a warm meal. With your help, we can deliver ingredients needed to make healthy meals for the children during this challenging time. Principla Barbara spoke to us about her feeding program. #breadlineafrica #enablingfutures #donations
