The experience of seeing SAB's Workshop live is like no other. The bubbling energy of young dancers bringing their enthusiasm and passion for dance to the stage is electric and we photographed the rehearsals and performances - from backstage and in the house - to try to capture a bit of that magic. It's hard to believe it's nearly been a month since our students took the stage! Join us as we recount this year's fabulous Workshop Performances through photos on the SAB blog today: #LinkInBio 📷: @rosalieoconnorphotography SERENADE, Choreography by George Balanchine ©️The George Balanchine Trust. @laurenlovette @wheeldony #SABWorkshop2024 #SABWorkshop #ballet #SchoolofAmericanBallet #Balanchine #SAB90 #Serenade #Serenade90 #LaurenLovette #ScenesDeBallet #SAB90Years #pointe #dance

We’re thrilled to share this month’s SAB Alumni Spotlight video featuring former dancer, professional photographer, and our inaugural recipient of the SAB Alumni of Distinction Award: Rosalie O’Connor! Watch as she shares a bit about her experience as an SAB student, what it’s like to come back to the School and photograph our students today, and how her friendship with her fellow SAB student and current SAB faculty member, Arch Higgins, is a shining example of how lifelong friendships can take root at the SAB Summer Course! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Rosalie O’Connor began her training at SAB in 1982. She spent four summers attending our Summer Course before being invited to stay for the Winter Term. In 1987, Mikhail Baryshnikov invited her to join American Ballet Theatre where she went on to have a 15-year career. Having had an interest in dance photography from a young age, she began photographing ABT from within during her last six years as a performer, and upon her retirement, she became an Associate Staff Photographer at the company and launched Rosalie O’Connor Photography. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Since 1996, Rosalie has developed a prolific body of photographic work, and her services are in high demand. Her images have appeared in Vogue, Vanity Fair, The New York Times and most dance periodicals, as well as right here on SAB’s Instagram! Rosalie’s photographs have been displayed in solo exhibitions at Lincoln Center and at The John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. For more than twenty years, Rosalie has beautifully captured life at SAB in the studios, on the stage, and in our hallways. 🩷 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Cover photo: Rosalie performing in the 1987 SAB Workshop Performances Photograph © Steven Caras, THE FOUR TEMPERAMENTS, Choreography by George Balanchine © The George Balanchine Trust ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @rosalieoconnorphotography @abtofficial #SABAlumni #SABAlumniSpotlight #SAB90 #SchoolofAmericanBallet #ballet #balletphotography #photographer #SABArchive

Calling all ballet teachers: There's still time to apply to be an SAB National Visiting Fellow for the 2024-2025 school year! Visiting Fellows are invited to attend two all-expenses-paid sessions during SAB’s Winter Term, where they observe a range of SAB classes, meet with faculty to discuss SAB’s curriculum and strategies for progression, teach SAB students and receive faculty feedback, and discuss relevant topics in dance education with administrative staff and faculty. In addition, the home school of each Visiting Fellow receives a monetary award of $5,000, to be applied to current or future diversity-related initiatives. Applications close on June 30, so don't delay! #LinkInBio @rebeccaharmandances #SABFellows #SABNationalVisitingFellows #BalletTeacher #DanceTeacher #SchoolofAmericanBallet #ballet #pointe #pointeshoes #dance

In honor of Juneteenth, SAB’s studios and offices are closed. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, reminds us of our incredible capacity to heal and emerge from our darkest moments. As we celebrate today, we invite our community to learn and reflect on the centuries of struggle and courage that have brought us to this time of progress and possibility. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to the work of ensuring our art form becomes more equitable and accessible for all its participants. Happy Juneteenth!
