👑🐧 All hail the king (penguin)! The ornithology collection team at the Museum had the privilege of examining a young king penguin specimen recently found deceased on the Eyre Peninsula. As one of only 7 specimens collected from the mainland of Australia, it’s highly unusual for this species to occur this far out from their Subantarctic habitat. With climate change, it’s possible that ocean currents may have influenced this king penguin movements and that we may see more animals like this venturing beyond their usual range in the future. This penguin’s story and its remains will now live on in our collections so that future generations can learn about this magnificent species. #MySAMuseum #kingpenguin #ornithology

🤩 Get ready to get your GLOW on this week!💡 Landing on the front lawns of the Museum this Friday 5 July as part of @illuminateadelaide , GLOW is an giant interactive light installation inspired by the cycles of the moon. 🌝 With over 40 different sounds and lighting animations, wander through and play with the interactive ‘moons’, or find a quiet spot and enjoy the experience at your own pace. Acquired around 1900, these wood pieces may look unassuming but what if we said they’ve seen the reign of monarchs? 👑 These pieces of oak come from Westminster Hall, the oldest surviving part of Parliament in London England and formed part of the cornice in the roof. They had quite a journey having come through the Secretary of State for Colonies to the Institute of Technology and then to the Art Gallery where they finally made their way to the Museum! This unique piece of history is now on display at Parliament Library on North Terrace. 🏛 #MySAMuseum #WestminsterHall @parliamentsouthaustralia

Thank you to all who attended Toddler Takeover this morning - we were well and truly taken over by toddlers! We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. We have some updates to provide regarding Sunday’s event: 🧒 In response to the overwhelming interest in the program, Sunday’s event will be expanded beyond the Discovery Centre with activities on multiple floors. 🅿 Pram parking will still be available on the day but spaces are limited so we recommend travelling light. 📅 There will be more dates to come, stay tuned to our social media channels for updates. 🗺 Our self-guided trails are available on our website to download at anytime. 🐊 The Crocodile Club is the perfect place to stay in the know about future programs for little ones under 5.
