Here's your reminder that it's okay to evolve and change your style as an artist and person. This painting by Camille Pissarro has two distinct periods of completion. Influenced by the Pointillist work of Georges Seurat, Pissarro originally painted this landscape entirely in small dots of color and dated it [18]87 in the lower right corner. The work remained in Pissarro's studio where, several years later, the upper left of the canvas was torn. The artist repaired the work and added a second date of 1902. Because Pissarro had by then abandoned the Pointillist style, the repainted area of the painting—the sky—exhibits the looser, more Impressionistic style of his later years. 📍 Gallery 257, European Art 1850 - 1900 🖼️ "Summer Landscape, Eragny," 1887 and 1902, Camille Pissarro #summerlandscape #impressionalist #pointillist #pissarro #philamuseum
