I caught up with @maureenpost of @culturebydesignllc as the company puts the final touches on the outdoor marketplace and music series, “Summer of Soul.” This event will be held at the @marcus.center ’s Peck Pavilion every other Wednesday beginning July 10 - September 18. The free outdoor event, located in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, will feature music, food, and a diverse marketplace. I was curious about the most rewarding aspects of planning such a large-scale event.
This week’s guest – @jacob_slade_ - joined us for 88Nine’s State of Sound lineup from May.
The essence of life in the Midwest pervades not only Jacob Slade’s music and lyricism, but also his work ethic - achieving almost 2 million Spotify streams and placements on various playlists is something not many independent artists can claim. And while Slade’s music has drawn comparisons to contemporary indie-folk artists such as Noah Kahan and Mt. Joy, he continues to explore a sound that’s uniquely his.
On today’s episode, @djerinwolf and Jacob talked about the inspiration behind his softly ambling song, “However You May,” which makes use of Slade’s percussive guitar playing and shows off his pensive writing style that’s intimately memorable.

🌉 The Chicago band that promptly sold out Cactus Club earlier this year, Brigitte Calls Me Baby, is equal parts elegant time warp and up-close exploration of our modern-day neuroses. They merge the lavish romanticism of mid-century pop with the frenetic energy and spiky intensity of early-millennium indie-rock. Centered on Leavins’ hypnotically crooning vocal work, the result is a rare convergence of sophistication and style and unabashed sincerity.
As shown on their debut EP This House Is Made Of Corners—a five-song project made with nine-time Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb—Brigitte Calls Me Baby possess a singular musicality informed by Leavins’ eclectic upbringing.
Newly signed to ATO Records, their full-length debut due is out in 2024.
