Live From Blackalachia is officially out, and i’m so proud.

i cannot believe i’m a part of this project and this beautiful band..truly. endless love to @liaosauce@haldeman & @darian.donovan.thomas who created such an inviting space to learn this music. y’all are incredible <3

i could say more and i rly want to but i’ll stop myself here. go watch / go listen!!!
muted colors is fully, completely, and entirely released from my own lil computer brain. but im not talking about that yet .. this is about distant spirit - the last of three self produced, animated videos, but this is the MAJOR one, and the first i made. i spent most of the pandemic, and move to a new city, fumbling through procreate and after effects to make this. it’s a companion to the most personal song on the record, one almost entirely about my dad, who left this world about a month ago. i feel like time ripples backwards or something like that and i couldn’t know how significant this piece would feel to me years later. so here it is .. i really hope you enjoy it.
a beach day in new zealand, which feels so long ago. slow to post, but loved this day. unrelated but do you remember making collages with old magazines? sprawled out on the floor with glue sticks, and photos. this makes me want to do that again

‘muted colors live’ by Ben Sloan, percussionist and producer, is out today! The live EP contains collaboratively crafted renditions of compositions that stem from his acclaimed debut album muted colors, released earlier this year.
On ‘muted colors live’, Sloan brings together an all-star lineup (Brooklynn Rae, Brianna Kelly, Michael-Andrew Spalding, Darian Donovan Thomas, Mike Haldeman, and Stephen Patota) to reimagine three tracks while video recording their performance. “So much of the record ‘muted colors’ was created solo, so it felt especially exciting to open things up to a full ensemble,” says Sloan. “Everyone involved brought a new dimension to the music.”

On Friday, October 27, 2023, percussionist and producer Ben Sloan, who has performed and recorded with The National, Moses Sumney, Beth Orton, Mouse on Mars, Rozi Plain, Serengeti, and WHY?, releases muted colors live, an EP containing collaboratively-crafted live renditions of tracks taken from his acclaimed debut album muted colors released earlier this year on New Amsterdam Records.
On muted colors live, Sloan brings together an all-star lineup (Brooklynn Rae, Brianna Kelly, Michael-Andrew Spalding, Darian Donovan Thomas, Mike Haldeman, and Stephen Patota) to reimagine three tracks from muted colors for a live performance video. “So much of
the record ‘muted colors’ was created solo, so it felt especially exciting to open things up to a full ensemble,” says Sloan. “Everyone involved brought a new dimension to the music.”
Today, August 30, 2023, Sloan releases the single ‘Philistine’ alongside a live video. Fluttery live electronics, violin, clarinet, and acoustic guitars provide a shimmering bed for soaring three-part vocal harmonies, while Sloan drives Sensory Percussion — a software system that transforms acoustic drums into a powerful controller for electronic music making — to build the music to a cathartic release of emotion and sound.
