We’re inching closer to knowing whether or not Ohio Senator (and Middletown native) J.D. Vance will win former President Donald Trump’s veepstakes.
Vance, who won his first Senate race against Democrat Rep. Tim Ryan in 2022, is rumored to be Trump’s VP frontrunner to take on President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris this November, but others are still in the running. North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum is considered a close contender and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida is also being considered.
All three VP hopefuls are gathering in Atlanta for Thursday’s Biden-Trump debate, hosted by CNN, but you aren’t likely to see them during the broadcast. The first in-person debate of the 2024 election will be held without a studio audience, an environment where Trump usually thrives. Interruptions will be further limited by muted microphones when the other candidate is speaking, according to CNN.
Vance, Burgum and Rubio have all been campaigning for Trump in recent months, with Vance and Burgum standing out as the most active of the three, and that matters.

Every year thousands of visitors head to Fernald Preserve to hike, bird watch and learn about the history of this former uranium processing plant. The 1,050-acre nature preserve is located just a short drive from Cincinnati, in Hamilton, and has everything — forests, prairies, wetlands, grasslands and open water. On the eastern boundary of the site, a large on-site disposal facility looms in the distance. This makes it impossible to ignore that what is now a natural sanctuary was once home to the Fernald Feed Materials Production Center, a Cold War-era uranium processing facility.

The long answer — and all of the lessons in environmental activism that come with it — can be found in Cleaning Up the Bomb Factory, the first book by environmental historian Dr. Casey A. Huegel. Within its pages, Huegel explores how the Greater Cincinnati community gained momentum with grassroots activism and a state coalition and managed to be part of the driving force that turned a polluted uranium plant into a nature preserve.

Chappell Roan wasn’t supposed to headline Kentuckiana Pride on June 15, but she did anyway. Icona Pop, the Swedish synth-pop duo originally scheduled to close out the fest on the main stage, called out sick the night before.
