Black Moon was written as a conduit song at 4 in the morning when I could not sleep sometime in January. The actual first recording of it I was barely able to sing because I was so depressed and so sad. It’s wild to sing it now with a band. It’s a prayer to that place of great despair and hopelessness, that place of total emptiness and that knowing that tho the moon is dark and new and empty and it will become full again altho at times I have believed it never will. I’m constantly in awe of how life tests my own patience and resilience. Every time the period of darkness seems longer and stranger and emptier, and the beauty of happiness seems stronger and purer and more intense. It has not mellowed with age, it’s just condensed.
