It's been 6 years since we both put on a pair of gloves each and picked up our first piece of trash on Mahim Beach. As of 2023, we have moved to Goa and gone a step further by making conscious consumption convenient and curating product alternatives for all the nuisance products we found on Mahim Beach when this all started.
But waste management is never forgotten because, as we know, only 9% of global plastic is actually recycled, 22% is mismanaged, and the rest goes to landfills. So, to that end, we compost all our wet waste and we set up our very own recycling drop-off station in our backyard where we have successfully collected and sent dry waste and e-waste to be recycled responsibly. Just last week, we sent 300 kgs of dry waste that is pictured above.
We collect all dry waste including glass bottles during the day between 10:30am and 6:30pm on all days except Sunday at our Ethico recycling station in Siolim, Goa as a way to express our continuing commitment to the fight against single-use plastic.

It's been 4 months since we opened the doors to our conscious store in Siolim, Goa and a little more than 3 years since we opened our online store, and as #EarthDay2023 comes to close, we want to take this opportunity to renew our commitment to our mission of sustainability in our everyday lives. When we look back at the start, it simultaneously feels like eons ago and just the day before yesterday. And while we know of so many who have had similar experiences while setting up their lives in Goa— finding joy in small things—we feel like we imbibed the "less is more" discovery into both, our home and business in equal measure.
So this lovely feature serves as a sweet reminder of the surreal experience of setting up our home and our conscious business in this sunny state that welcomed us with open arms. Our shop, the community built around it , and the recycling unit we set up are all a contribution to its prosperity.
Ultimately, the biggest lesson for us was staying true to ourselves and offering both our life and work as extensions of who we are and what we stand for—slow, sustainable , and conscious living.

It’s been quite a ride since the day we showed up on Mahim Beach in 2017 with only a pair of rubber gloves, determined to find the clear beach beneath all the strewn garbage.
The overwhelming response from the citizens of Mumbai and beyond who joined this movement weekend after weekend, made it possible for us to take on the gigantic task of clearing over 1000 tonnes of waste from the beach. The community, love and support we have seen over the years is so heartwarming and a testament to how the power to make a difference lies within each one of us. Embodying the change that you want to see is infectious and can bring about ripples that reach far and wide.
Together we can truly move mountains (and clean beaches!) 🌻
