Hey everyone - Trim here! Putting the spotlight on the members of Hanami in advance of our shows this coming weekend as we've all been up to a lot since we last played - today it's Charles Rumback (@serlahc )! I met Charles shortly after moving to Chicago but later discovered that our first encounter was actually playing 8-man football against each other in Kansas in the late 90's! His singular sound on the drums is all over so many of my favorite records - his 2021 release Seven Bridges featuring the legendary Denver cornetist Ron Miles, his trio records with Jim Baker & John Tate, and his records with The Colorist. When not leading his own groups, he can be found playing with folks like Fred Lonberg-Holm & Nick Macri in Stirrup, Doug McCombs & Bill Mackay in Black Duck & many others.  Hanami is in the midwest this weekend! Jason is a master of the bass clarinet & a true linchpin in the sound of Hanami. He's also an incredibly active leader & sideman in his own right, releasing music with his own groups Locksmith Isidore, Hearts & Minds, Nature Work and his long-standing quartet with Keefe Jackson. When not playing with his own bands, he can be found regularly contributing to other rad groups like Joshua Abrams NIS, the Quin Kirchner Group & many others Hanami is in the midwest this weekend! Hey everyone - Trim here! Putting the spotlight on the members of Hanami in advance of our shows this coming weekend as we've all been up to a lot since we last played - today it's Mai Sugimoto (@sugifoto )!! Mai was the first member of Hanami that I met & it happened before I lived in Chicago at the legendary Denver jam session at Herb's. Mai has been super active since we last played, releasing two albums under her own name. Her newest record is gorgeous - titled Sunlight Filtering Through Leaves, it showcases the wonderful interplay of her standing trio with Joshua Abrams & Isaiah Spencer. When not leading her own projects, she also can be found playing with Joshua Abrams NIS, Tatsu Aoki, and many others in the Chicago improvised music community. Hanami is in the midwest this weekend!
