I am so proud and honestly pretty shocked to be included in this lineup of insanely talented & inspiring chefs - this is not something I ever in a million years saw happening (I make cake at a hole-in-the-wall pizza restaurant on a dusty corner across from a gas station, you know?!) but I am so grateful that @khushandoj saw something I didn’t quite grasp. I think that we must have something really special going on here, after all.
I love princess cake, I love our restaurant, I love our staff, I love our guests who brave the chaos that is 1305 Portia St to enjoy cake & ice cream & wine & beans & oh ya also pizza, and I love love love my partner Aaron, who I truly couldn’t have done any of this without.

Couldn’t have had a better weekend at #fwclassic . Truly a gift to cook, celebrate, and giggle with my fellow 2023 BNCs and their perfect partners. It’s far too easy to let your perspective narrow in the day to day of running a restaurant, and I didn’t know how much I needed a weekend with this immensely talented group in this immensely beautiful place to open up my eyes and heart 💚💚 Thank you so much to @foodandwine and @notesfromacook for having me, to Ari and his crew for helping me, to @khushandoj for seeing something special in our little pizza parlor, to @cshepherd13 for the emotional and physical support (@boostoxygen sponser us) and to Aaron, Mr. @quartersheets who I couldn’t have done it without.

When it comes to meet-cute locations, @hannahziskin and Aaron Lindell have most people beat: they met in a walk-in fridge.
Since their early days working together in San Francisco, the @quartersheets cofounders have been attached at the hip, with Ziskin focusing on pastry and Lindell honing the savory side. Their rom-com recipe of a story does not make them die-hard Valentine’s Day champions however. Quite the contrary.

The Quarter Sheets Slab Cake
I keep an archive of every flavor we’ve created since June 2021; it’s many pages long. The structure of this cake is just endlessly malleable, lending itself willingly to changing seasons, spices, textures, and various creative whims. I love all my cakes but I definitely have my favorites - I can’t help it! Strawberry-rose geranium-vanilla, passionfruit-bay leaf-olive oil, nectarine Melba…
I also definitely remember my least favorite - tahini chiffon, labneh mousse, and slow roasted grapes which SOUNDS good but was a total flop. They can’t all be winners 🙅🏻♀️
