AND THEY’RE OFF! First crew in 2024 🚀 Spirits are high as the crew of HANAIA I KE AHI, a subset of the EMMIHS missions, embarked on the first of their 12-day analog astronaut journey. We’ve settled in the Habitat (lovingly referred to as the Hab) atop Mauna Loa, an otherworldly field of lava and colossal geological structures on Hawaii’s big island. Adjusting to the life of an astronaut crew is no easy assignment, but the team is taking each task in stride and confidently moving forward on a variety of projects to advance research for moon- and mars-basing missions.

HI-SEAS was presented at the 7th International Moon Village Workshop & Symposium last month. This conference was hosted by Moon Village Association (MVA) in Kurashiki, Japan. This conference was focused on the growth of human society on the Moon, discussing ongoing and planned Moon programs. It was the perfect opportunity to share what we are doing at HI-SEAS and give an update on the recent research we have conducted.

🚀 APPLICATIONS FOR 2024 ARE NOW OPEN🚀 Dear space enthusiasts, Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live like an analog astronaut, living on a fixed schedule, performing various experiments, doing EVAs in a lunar-like environment, working with the entire crew to make it a successful mission? Then IMA HI-SEAS could be an interesting challenge for you. Applications for analog astronauts for the 2024 missions are now open! If you are interested, follow the first step of the selection process through the application form: https://forms.gle/cfPKXdEajKDc13Fy5 See you on the moon! #analog #astronauts #applications #hiseas #hawaii #MaunaLoa #base #mission #Moon #Mars #space #experience #experiments #research

The HI-SEAS Selene II mission is the cover story for the November issue of @smithsonianmagazine ! With Commander Michaela Musilova (@astro_michaela ) at the helm, this crew (composed of Fabio Teixeira, Ben Greaves (@benji_greaves ), Lindsey Rutter, Karen Rucker (@antenna_karen ), and Cassandra Klos (@cassandraklos_ )spent two weeks on the Moon with their share of dust storms, bean curds, lava tube exploration, and the all too familiar "3 scoops" policy. Story by @jenniegritz and photographs by @cassandraklos_ , a fine art and documentary photographer and analog astronaut. Join us for a Smithsonian-sponsored lecture given by @astro_michaela and @cassandraklos_ in early December!
