Last year at school camp Buddy had a rather dramatic bike collision with his mates resulting in a bunch of scrapes and a rather ripped tee. As you know I’ll turn anything into a sewing project so I decided to use that tee to practice my Sashiko mending! I am so happy with how it turned out, and even happier that it has become Buddy’s favourite tee. Project details on the blog! ✨️ Restocking my workroom pattern wall ✨️ I often get questions about where my patterns are stored, so here’s another little peek! The majority of my patterns are stored in my warehouse in the USA, and that’s where all orders (except for Aussies) are shipped from. I keep a small amount of stock in Perth, Australia for my Aussie makers. I have a pattern wall in my workroom next to my desk with a box for each pattern. I fill the boxes with patterns and when I’m packing orders for Aussies I can just walk over and pull what I need - easy peasy! Obviously these aren’t all the patterns I keep in Perth, this wall is just to make it a little easier for me to pack orders - plus I think it’s pretty to look at ;) The rest of my Aussie stock is stored carefully in my pretty little backyard shed (there is a video from last year if you want a peek at it). Hope you enjoyed a little peek at my quiet Saturday restocking my workroom pattern wall. Happy sewing!! #megannielsenpatterns #behindthescenes #sew #sewing #sewingpattern

I’m always surprised when people imagine my sewing is *always* perfect first time- i think it probably comes from seeing the finished samples of a pattern and not much of the behind the scenes process. So today i want to share a little reminder that sewing can be a pain sometimes and we all make stupid mistakes and its fine- that is what seam rippers are for. Here is the story: I saw a golf skort that i loved online but was between sizes. While bemoaning this fact and the impending fit issues, my husband innocently asked why I didn’t just make one myself that fit properly. That sounded fun so i did. And i mostly had a great time doing it. But i just finished and will now take the whole thing apart and redo it. So would you like the run down? I drafted the knife pleats to be pressed left, but cut my fabric wrong side up instead of right side up. So i should have pressed them right instead. By pressing them in the wrong direction i ended up with a box pleat on each hip which looks bizarre and weird and an empty pleat-less spot next to it. I installed the waistband wrong side out, so the twill weave doesn’t align and cant fix it because i already sewed the buttonhole. I was very happy with the inseam pocket that included an invisible zip until i realised that the pocket bag colour didnt match the skirt or undershorts which is not ok for an athletic skirt as it needs to blend. Because i installed the waistband backwards the side seams don’t align and hurt my eyes. I broke three needles because it was late at night and i was tired and forgot to change my needle position after sewing the zips. And did i mention that i am almost out of matching thread? Obviously i could leave it like it is, most of the issues can be ignored but the pleat mistake is unforgivable and if i do leave them i know i just won’t wear it. So please excuse me while i spend several hours unpicking a completed project just to redo it properly this time 🤪 might put the kettle on first. Happy sewing everyone and don’t be too hard on yourselves! 😘
