REMINDER: The @northsideparade will kick off at 11am (1 hour earlier this year) on Independence Day at the northern boundary of Northside, traveling south on Hamilton Ave. from Ashtree Dr. to Palm Ave., making this one of the longest parades in Hamilton County. If you’re traveling from outside the neighborhood, we strongly recommend arriving early and exercising patience. Many Northside businesses will be open, and you’ll have a chance to meet and mingle with tons of fun people. Don’t forget to purchase some swag to mark the occasion!

John Hall Body Shop opened at 1632 Hoffner St. in 1939. At this point, 26.2 million automobiles were registered in the US. Federal funding for roads had been vastly expanded by relief and stabilization programs during the New Deal in the 1930s. By 1939, just over 1/3 of American roads had been surfaced, and there were more than 240,000 gasoline service stations.
1939 also marked the introduction of the Cincinnati-made Crosley automobile at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The two-door convertible was small, powered by an air-cooled engine and priced lower than its competition, putting car ownership within reach of more Americans.
This business has been in the Brummitt family since 1986, offering full-service collision repair. Customers widely report that the service they’ve received is honest, friendly and fair.

This is a short, fun commitment of 2-3 hours that will help ensure that the event will run smoothly for everyone. The Northside 4th of July parade wants to include your group to make this year’s parade the most amazing it can be! Submissions are due on Sat 29 Jun, so don’t delay! Due to fire code, the organizers cannot accept entries after Saturday.
In order to beat the heat, this year’s @northsideparade will start at 11am on Thu 4 Jul (1 hour earlier than previous years). There will also be wellness stations in the staging lot and along the route to keep you cool during your time.
The origins of our community parade can be traced back to 1854, when the Sisters of Charity’s Orphanage moved from downtown to its new facility, the St. Joseph Orphanage. Women and children rode canal boats (up what is now Central Parkway), and the procession beside them was made up of members of the Turners, Oddfellows, Butchers Association, Bricklayers Society, and the Catholic Orphans Society.
The parade became an annual event which, combined with a festival, served as the major fundraiser for the orphanage until 1960, when that facility moved out of the neighborhood. It was reborn as a community event in 1970 and has once again become an annual tradition.

As you probably already know, this year the @northsidecommunitycouncil and the NCC’s 4th of July Parade Committee face increased expenses and police staffing requirements. We are grateful that the event is moving forward and deeply appreciate everyone’s commitment to this neighborhood tradition.
