@vanderbiltu James A. Robin award recipient (which is awarded to a person committed in sport committed to learning and service), a pro lacrosse player with
@auprolax , a coach, a Masters graduate in Special Education and is now a teacher at
@tsbtigers 🤯
Melissa has no shortage of accolades both academically and athletically. She started playing lacrosse in middle school and has made her mark on the sport since, playing 5 years at
@vanderbiltu and then volunteer coaching there. Since her time at Vandy, she has made her debut with
@auprosports on the women’s lacrosse team in her summers off and even run a marathon! Perhaps most importantly though, she has dedicated her life and career to believing in and encouraging her students with varying disabilities. Her passion for her work is obvious, and she has a beautiful way of tying her love of her students to her love of sport through coaching.
While I was taken by Melissa’s athletic success, I was particularly struck by her clear support and love of those around her. Melissa is a girls girl to her core, and it shows. She is a fierce supporter of women broadly, and especially women in sport. She is an encourager, which I imagine makes her such an amazing teammate. Melissa has a gentle heart that you can feel upon meeting her, and I’m certain her impact on women’s lacrosse will be a lasting one.
