Coming soon to Pilar Corrias Conduit Street, Nature Painting Nature, curated by Lydia Yee, a group exhibition of works by Jordan Casteel, Jane Freilicher, Grace Hartigan, Leiko Ikemura, Francesca Mollett, Sabine Moritz and Vivien Zhang. Nature Painting Nature takes a multigenerational look at artists for whom the forms of nature offer a way to translate personal experience, memory and direct observation into paint. It takes as a starting point Frank O'Hara's essay, 'Nature and New Painting' (1954), focusing on a generation of New York School painters who filtered their experience through natural subject matter, in contrast to the transcendent approach of their Abstract Expressionist peers. Join us for the opening reception on Tuesday 23 July, 6–8pm, all welcome. Exhibition from 24 July–21 September. See more via the link in bio. - Image: Jane Freilicher, Blue Table, 1966. © Estate of Jane Freilicher. In the early 90s, #RirkritTiravanija became renowned for cooking pieces that took place in galleries and museums, which both exhilarated and confounded audiences. Since then, Tiravanija has continued to create 'situations' that introduce smell, taste, touch, and waste —in other words, life and utility— into the sterile space of the white cube. Travelling from @momaps1 , Tiravanija's major solo exhibition, A LOT OF PEOPLE, is now on view at @luma_arles . Bringing together works made over four decades, the exhibition includes several pieces that have not been seen or experienced since their initial presentation. Central are multimedia installations that critically reflect on current social conditions around the world, the struggle to sustain democracy, and proliferating protest movements. — Exhibition views: Rirkrit Tiravanija, Les Forges, Parc des Ateliers, LUMA Arles, France, 1 June– 3 November 2024. #PhilippeParreno challenges the traditional notion of the artist and refuses to be a producer of objects. By exploring the dynamic relationship between exhibition and artwork, and offering 'experiences of time,' he pioneered a revolutionary shift in contemporary art forms of the 1990s. Utilising the methodologies and vocabulary of different media like radio, television, film, and advanced information technology, he tore down the boundaries between reality and fiction, prompting non-linear temporality and radical changes in narrative structure. VOICES, the largest survey of the artist to date in Asia, continues @leeummuseumofart in Seoul until 7 July. Showcasing the most representative pieces from his thirty-year career, the exhibition provides a comprehensive experience of Parreno's oeuvre from the nineties to the present. — Exhibition views: Philippe Parreno: VOICES, Leeum Museum of Art, Seoul, 28 February–7 July 2024. Lina Iris Viktor: Solar Angels & Lunar Lords is on view at Pilar Corrias Conduit Street until 13 July. Within this new body of work, Viktor embraces a rich tapestry of cultural references, symbolism and sensory experience, integrating forms from the West African visual cultures of the Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Benin. Bridging geographical and historical boundaries, Viktor synthesises her ancestral heritage with contemporary modes of expression to foreground the political and aesthetic legacies of material extraction and exchange. Coming soon to the Sir John Soane's Museum, London, Mythic Time / Tens of Thousands of Rememberings is a collaborative exhibition between the artist and the museum. Here Viktor mirrors Soane's own eclectic approach to collecting objects from varied cultures and time periods through works spanning sculpture, painting and gilding made especially for this exhibition. Opening on 10 July 2024–19 January 2025. As it's officially Midsummer, we're particularly enjoying this painting from Sophie von Hellermann's 2020 series, A Midsummer Night's Dream. As with Shakespeare's play, von Hellermann's process confronts the struggle between reality and imagination. Applying pigments in large swathing brushstrokes directly to the canvas at an accelerated pace means that once the painting is finished Sophie has to catch up with reality. This sense of immediacy between the working of the mind and the hands imbues her work with a sense of weightlessness and fleeting romanticism that allude to the frenzy of love. — Image: Sophie von Hellermann, Fond Chase, 2020. ‘With all the drawings and maquettes I have made of Villa Venus, I know it so well. It’s almost like a dream: you know exactly where things are and how you move between the spaces.’ –@sofiamitsola 🎨 Earlier this spring, we stepped into Sofia’s London studio just as she was putting the final touches on the paintings that make up her new show, Villa Venus: The Garden. The exhibition continues at Pilar Corrias Savile Row until 20 July. — 📹 @leepretiousstudio #SofiaMitsola #PilarCorrias #InTheStudio #Interview

'Colour, for Tomashi Jackson, is a tool for posing questions about how we see the world and for visually asserting the simultaneity of joy and struggle, of destruction and camaraderie—dualities that, of course, define us. 'She has long been interested in how the language of colour theory mirrors that of segregation; she has described how Josef Albers’s once-groundbreaking assertion that colour is relative, contextual, and responsive continues to be a useful metaphor for critiquing racism. As Jackson says, and her works—at once figurative and abstract, exuberant and riven with fury—demonstrate, “Colour is always changing, and, contrary to popular belief, it is not absolute.”' Such words are especially poignant today, on #Juneteenth . In the summer issue of @artforum , @mearasharma reviews Silent Alarm, Tomashi Jackson’s recent show at the gallery. The work of Korean artist @koojeonga gives the impression of being situated in a flow of constant transformation. This summer's exhibition at Malmö Konsthall, EHM [Event Horizon Malmö], consists of Koo's new work, OooOoO Malmö (2024). The sculpture – a skatepark constructed entirely of wood – is specifically designed for Malmö Konsthall's exhibition space. Offering a playground for both spontaneous movement and choreography, the sculpture is open for skating every day. OooOoO Malmö is complemented by a selection of the artist's drawings executed in large format directly onto the walls of @malmokonsthall . — Installation views: Koo Jeong A, EHM [Event Horizon Malmö], Malmö Konsthall, 1 June–25 August 2024.
