OneBeat Virtual #5 fellow Raiël Solomon, also known as RxSolo(@rxsolo_ ), is a dynamic rapper, producer, sound engineer, and multi-instrumentalist from Cape Town, South Africa. Proficient in bass guitar, electric guitar, and piano, Raiël intertwines his deep passion for history and societal behaviors with his musical creations. His very first project delved into the lasting impacts of apartheid on the South African psyche, exploring how historical oppression has molded the experiences and emotions of his community. Through his music, Raiël seeks to illuminate the complex challenges his community faces, offering both a mirror for reflection and a beacon for healing. His work is characterized by a relentless pursuit of self-discovery, continually pushing the boundaries of his musical expression to explore and articulate different facets of his soul. Over the past 13 years I have had issues with both my legs. It has been something I have downplayed a lot but I’m learning to allow myself the space to speak about these things. At the age between 12 and 16 I had 5 operations on my legs. This has led to me having constant pain either due to physical pain from over doing it or from the weather. This would incapacitate me for the majority of the year, impacting my social and music life and mental health. It has prevented gigs, where booking agents would book me for earlier and earlier shows because I wouldn’t be able to handle my set when i was really having to handle immense pain while doing simple tasks. It has impacted social interactions by preventing me from either attending or being fully present in the moment. Having to deal with this for the past 13 years has been something I haven’t realised was an issue until last year when it became the most intense I’ve ever experienced it, realising that what I’m experiencing isn’t something to be brushed over and ignored by myself and push through. I would do a live performance and take a week to recoup from the pain. Recently I had my 6th operation which was a bilateral hip resurfacing. Having to re-experience the similar feelings and pain that I had endured as a teenager again in my 20s was and still is a real trip. Bringing up emotions and memories that I had forgotten back to the surface. As of right now I’m doing better, I haven’t touched the studio since I went in for surgery 8 weeks ago. I’m focusing on healing and readjusting my vision for music and how I will live in the space. I will be releasing music soon, but will need some time to get back into the swing of things. In the meantime you can stream and support the music that is out. I will be out for a couple months and the support would be amazing while I’m getting back to full health.
