Adrift is out everywhere now. This record contains every piece of me- it can tell you more about me than I can. These songs come together to represent me and my life so painfully accurately even though I wrote them when I was 15-16. Despite exploring so many different genres and styles, I think Adrift is so strong because it is a unit. I love these songs individually of course, but I think that all together, in this order, they become even better. I highly recommend that the first time you listen to Adrift you listen to it all the way through. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s telling a story, but there is definitely a sense of narrative continuity throughout the tracklist that was mostly unintended. Before continuing I want to thank everyone involved in making this thing. It was such a privilege to work with all of you. Adrift would not exist without you all. @andrewjambura from @silvercitystudios recorded the entirety of Skin, Hands, and Blue Love, as well as a lot of the vocals and basses on other tracks. Also mixed and mastered every single track. Thank you for bringing everything everybody else did together, working across multiple DAWs, and getting the project back on track after so much uncertainty @jonny_mixedit tracked and did some mixing on a lot of the solo cuts here. Thank you so much for opening up your space to me and giving me rides to and from the studio when needed! Micky from undergroundsquirrelstudio tracked the instrumentals for Eye For An Apple, Stained Glass Windows, and the title track and also wrote and played the drums on those tracks- as well as helped me write the bass parts for those songs @josh_evert_ played drums on Skin and Hands and also wrote the parts as we recorded them I can’t thank you all enough for lending your time and talents to this album. Y’all gave me the thing that I’m proudest of in my life and I cannot express how grateful I am. Stuff that wouldn't fit on other slides ▶️🛝 If you got this far, thank you :) It feels so weird and wrong to put this on the Internet. I don't want to be too sappy or overshare, but I think Adrift is a record that deserves an explanation. I hope you listen and enjoy. 💜- Trent

Good Grief, the new record from Milwaukee-based indie rockers @manatee_fates is out now on the Panamanian (and Grammy-winning) label @_editoris ! In the wake of a few lineup changes, a shelved 2020 album, and a pandemic-induced hiatus, Vanity Plates recorded, mixed and mastered the album at @silvercitystudios in 2023, their first record in six years. Good Grief expands on the confessional nature of their debut album You Want to Move, and showcases a more refined sound thanks in large part to the addition of @pete_cio on bass and close collaboration with Silver City’s @josh_evert_ . Surf and doo-wop riffs, textured, melodic solos, and perfectly-placed jam breaks (glued together with super tight drumming from Shane Timm) bring you back into your body just when lead singer Alex Shah’s (@fakevacationpics ) painfully relatable lyrics start getting to your head. These moving parts create a rich and nuanced sonic landscape so that the sad lines don’t need to be taken neat and the clever lines get their well-deserved exclamation points. This collection of songs sits comfortably within itself as a cohesive, honest body of alt pop that reminds the listener that they are not alone in their experiences. Good Grief serves as an invitation, an acknowledgment that we all have the same things to say as its songwriter, even if we don’t do it as poetically or with such a nice Wisconsin accent or with our friends counting us in. Good Grief Day will be observed tonight at Linneman’s along with the excellent additional musical stylings of @beautystepsss and @buenacara_mke . $15 (no one turned away), doors at 7, music at 8, tapes and other slick merch available for purchase, Brian at the door, Jimmy on the sound board, Marty behind the pine (probably). I’m sorry but we’re abouta turn your hump day into a bump, thump and shake-your-rump day because Good Grief is officially live on our bandcamp and all streaming services *checks watch* RIGHT NOW!! This one was a doozy! I’m so proud of Shaney, Petey and, surprisingly, myself for all the hard work we put into this album. Speaking of “hard work put into this album”, a cosmically scaled massive thank you to Josh Evert who not only recorded, mixed and mastered this bad boy, but also believed in it, nourished it, and humored all of my silly little ideas while contributing plenty of his own. Thanks also to Carter Voras, whose unique guitar tone and thoughtful shredding is an essential ingredient to Good Grief’s flavor and to Poti and his killer label Editoris for giving the album a home and distributing our tapes. Finally, thanks to John Larkin, Corey Murphy, and D’Amato for providing trumpet, trombone, and bari sax respectively; to my wonderful partner Jenna for lending their voice and tons of support; and to my sweet ole friends Jay, JoJo, and Palmer for lending their ears at all stages and providing stellar feedback and encouragement. I take it back tho, cause the final thanks just has to go to YOU, the listener! For real though, I’ve waltzed down the “Rick Rubin road” of making music specifically for myself to enjoy (unfortunate choice because I have terrible taste), but it’s a HUUGEEE bonus when anyone not named Alex Shah digs it (no shade to the other Alex Shah’s of the world). Having the opportunity to make music with my friends is such a privilege in itself and it makes my bones hurt in a nice way to know people are taking some time to listen to and enjoy our scrappy band. I know this post is a little wet and wild but man we haven’t released an album in six years and it feels like a release in the truest sense of the word. Check it out and if you like it, tell someone about it. It can be me; I won’t tell a soul. Links are in the bio and make sure to come celebrate with us + the big bad B’s Beauty Steps + Buena Cara at our Milwaukee tape release show this Friday at Linnemans 🎉 3rd pic courtesy of the one and only Bobster @b0bbi.e

Congratulations to @yinannnnn Wang on his incredible feature “Decoupling” winning the Cream City Cinema Jury Award at the 2024 @mkefilm Fest! Poster by @sboardy_spice Trailer Edited by @goodcreditproductions
Music by @shaktajiri
Audio Mixing by @josh_evert_ at @silvercitystudios Decoupling is the story of a “Chinese” father as he navigates the breakdown of relations between China and the US. Director’s Statement: ‘In cosmology, “decoupling” refers to a phase in the evolution of the universe when various types of particles cease to interact thermally with each other. However, in contemporary geopolitical discourse, “decoupling” has become a term denoting the ongoing tension between China and the U.S. For my family, “decoupling” signifies a two-year separation from my daughter. For many other Chinese immigrants, “decoupling” represents a severance of ties between their birthplace and their current residence. Immigrants often remain unseen and unheard, their experiences marginalized and their voices silenced. I am compelled to create a film about my own journey because I yearn for my voice to resonate. Through this film, I seek to reach out to the countless individuals who share similar experiences, to reassure them that they are not alone; that together, we form a resilient community. My aim is to illuminate this overlooked aspect of history, to mend the gaps in our collective narrative. I envision this film as a bridge, a conduit for understanding and connection with those who may not be familiar with immigrant and Asian American stories but harbor a genuine desire to learn. Through storytelling, I hope to foster empathy, dispel stereotypes, and foster a deeper appreciation for the diverse tapestry of human experiences.’
