happy new year, everybody. very happy to announce a new record out today with bassist @lowell_levene_sims called “relaxed standards.”it features long form ambient deconstructions/extrapolations of three classics: “wise one” by john coltrane; “blue in green” by bill evans; and “where or when” by rodgers and hart. it was a joy to convene in rural iowa @flatblackstudios and drift through some favorite tunes with a good friend. it is a double cd of unedited performances for the long-haulers, insomniacs, early risers, and those with no signal. no digital at this time, but you can listen to an excerpt on bandcamp 🔗↖️ where you can also buy it, or you can dm me for a back alley deal and nobody will know a damn thing…

I directed and performed in the new video for “Unblock Obstacles,” the new single from @kinsella_and_pulse . It was originally created for the Friend/Enemy record HIH NO/ON back in 2017, but found a second life via Tim and Jenny. Thanks to them and to @roommatemusic for the incredible edit! 60 strings will make our debut @elasticarts this Wednesday 5/31! In Justin’s words: “60 Strings is an all pedal steel trio. Justin Brown, Jordan Martins and Sam Wagster play three double neck pedal steel guitars with no effects or signal processing, showcasing the unique sound and expressive possibilities of the steel guitar. The group creates layered immersive patterns, orchestral textures, hazy vistas, and musical paradoxes.” We are very excited to share this initial round of pieces. Come by on Wednesday if you can!
