The Over-the-Rhine Museum inspires understanding and respect for the people who have created and lived in the neighborhood by working with visitors and community members to uncover, present and preserve their stories in an immersive experience. It is inspired by @thetenementmuseum in NYC.
The museum is currently raising funds to build out its new home, but there are already opportunities to engage with the ongoing research.
@uofcincy undergraduate history students produced an exhibition for the storefront exterior of 3 West McMicken Ave. to showcase 6 of the more than 135 families that have lived in this building or in 12 Findlay St. over the span of approximately 160 years. This outdoor exhibition is free and open to passersby 24/7.
The museum’s popular themed walking tours of the area include labor history, life in tenement buildings, women’s history and, coming soon, African American history.
Expect to become intimately acquainted with late 19th century architecture, particularly in the Italianate style, and to learn the layered stories behind the façades. Follow the @otrmuseum for more information!
