❗New Legal Resources❗
Understanding the legal side of your music project is important in professionalising your practice. While it can feel overwhelming and sometimes confusing, you don’t have to navigate it alone.
Join Arts Law CEO Dr Louise Buckingham and Simpson Law’s Jules Munro as they explore the newly created Legal Pack for Musicians. They’ll guide you through the resource, exploring factsheets, checklists and various music agreements - from Band Partnerships, publishing agreements, synchronisation licences, producer agreements, and much more.

WAM expresses its deepest condolences to the family, friends and admirers of WA’s first lady of jazz, Helen Matthews.
In a career that spanned five decades, Helen was renowned as WA's foremost jazz vocalist. As well as directing the Fremantle Jazz Festival and Bunbury International Jazz Festival, Helen held pivotal roles at the Perth Jazz Society, paving the way for female musicians. On top of these achievements, Helen was also a broadcaster, helming the national show, “Helen Matthews – With A Little Help From Her Friends”. Over her extended career, she performed for both the Queen and the Pope, performed with some of Australia’s finest jazz artists including Don Burrows and James Morrison, and fronted several local acts, including JT & The Jazzmen, A Slight Diversion, Nova Dreams and The Helen Matthews Quartet.
Her passion for jazz and unwavering support for local musicians was unparalleled.
Helen’s distinguished career led to her induction into the WAM Hall of Fame at the WA Music Awards ceremony in 2015, and in 2022, she was named as a State Cultural Treasure (music) by the WA state government.
Farewell, Helen — your music will resonate forever in our hearts.
