@resavoir album out nov 3rd 💧
‘sunday morning’ out now with
@elton.aura and
@whitneyband
wanted to share a little story about how this song came together so please indulge me for a second.
some songs take hours to write, some take years. after writing the initial chord progression and building the main 8 bar loop one rainy may day i sat with what i had for a few weeks. i ended up showing it to max and julien to see if they had any fresh ideas for it, but what we ended up recording didn’t quite stick.
@eddiestx came by a few weeks later and played this wild drum groove on his laptop keyboard. dude’s musical typing skills are unmatched.
@lanebeckstrom upright bass was the next piece of the puzzle adding that signature thump. was really into how this was sounding at this point and wanted to save it for the right occasion to work any further on it. in the meantime i wrote the bridge section knowing it needed something to break things up. about a year later i had a session with elton and pulled this up, and he sort of instantly started writing to it, and we completed his verse on the spot. he went home and wrote the chorus and shot it back to me. incredible. ok so literally the NEXT day
@julienehrlich texts me a voice memo of himself singing over the same instrumental, the one i played for him a year prior to see if he had any drum ideas for it. he had sneakily recorded himself humming this beautiful, twisting melody over it into his phone in the corner of the studio. the timing of him sending it to me the day after elton hopped on blew my mind. so max julien and i got together to flesh out that idea as an outro. last piece of the puzzle was getting
@kenzinho91 to rip some woodwinds on the bridge et voila!
@crystalzapata knocked it out of the park for the single artwork as she does. her whole art direction on this album is so inspiring and beautiful - the LP package is something to behold! and be held! preorder one!
getting to work with
@nikarthur has been so refreshing and rewarding. his affinity for working with natural materials is such a unique and perfect compliment to the music and i’m super psyched for whats coming next ;)
