The 19th edition of B-Sides took place two weeks ago. We would like to thank the team, the more than 40 artists and the 400 volunteers for an unforgettable festival. We are still filled with so much love and energy that could be felt on the Sonnenberg. Unfortunately, for the second year in a row, the festival had to accept a large deficit. Especially on Saturday there were less people at the B-Sides than expected and usual in the past. Organizing and running a festival is financially risky and difficult to calculate. B-Sides has an annual budget of around 700,000 Swiss francs. We generate almost three quarters of this from the sale of tickets, drinks and food. Factors such as bad weather, other events taking place at the same time, a bold program, a generational change in the audience and the current difficult situation for cultural events in general have led to a loss of visitors that we could not have predicted. After last year’s programmatically and atmospherically successful but financially difficult edition, we budgeted carefully for this year and significantly reduced our expenses. Unfortunately, we had to accept another 25% drop in attendance, which depleted our financial reserves. In order for the B-Sides Festival to continue, the association is now dependent on support. With the help of crowdfunding, we hope to raise at least 60,000 Swiss francs by mid-August. We need these funds to cover running costs and to start planning the anniversary edition. The B-Sides Festival stands for the B-sides of music, for homemade music, a peaceful atmosphere, attention to detail and diversity. 400 people volunteer for B-Sides, 40 of them in the core team. We do everything we can to ensure that B-Sides continues to develop.
We want to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the festival and continue to contribute to a diverse cultural offering in Switzerland. Please help us to make sure that this heartfelt project can take place from the 19th to the 21st of June, 2025. Thank you for your support!
