In the world of Mola Oddity, freedom is a childlike song, sung in the name of the wind. For 呂志良, as long as there is a guiding sound, he can see the trajectory of the wind. The moment he encountered “Marmalade Day,” 呂志良 immediately realized they were all children of freedom. If he were to depict the shape of freedom, the overflowing emotions of Mola Oddity would be his best paint.
呂志良’s remix of “Marmalade Day” uses imaginative cuts, transformations, and reconstructions of vocal material, boldly experimenting to shape the fluidity of rhythm. Just like his DJ sets, it unhurriedly takes listeners on a celestial journey. The fragmented glitch effects transform Birdy K’s light “a drop of Dili” into countless forms. Words kissed by the wind echo into a subconscious chorus. Let go of your defenses and become a nocturnal creature, dancing with the ever-changing rhythm. Through deep and narrow tunnels, at the moment the subconscious drips back into reality, we meet a renewed self at the exit. There, the free wind is gently blowing.

we were so happy that we felt like we were burning up. It felt like being launched into the sky, hitting a star, and landing back on the couch at home.
Everything seemed surreal, yet it was happening...

아저씨가 꽃밭에서 아장아장 우리에게 다가온다.
모나지 않게 점토마냥 이리저리 주물러진 아저씨다. 환영이라도 보는 걸까? 묻어있는 지문들은 이들에게 작가의 손길이 닿았음을, 명백하게 피조물의 속성을 비춘다. 빚어짐을 읽어내는 시도조차 진부할 정도로 수고스러운 텍스쳐의 모델은, 환영보다는 정성스러운 환영(歡迎)에 가깝다. 그렇게 어느새 우리는 아저씨와 가까워진다.
‘환영’이 기능하기 위해선 몇 가지 교활한 조건/자격이 요구된다. 주체, 장소, 객체 그리고 마지막으로 기쁜 마음이 있어야 한다.
2년 전, 작가의 첫 개인전 ’너는 뭐가 문제니‘ 에서 응당 문제라 일컬어지는 것들을 사랑(까지는 아니고, 귀여워)해야 한다는 인사를 기억하는가? 당시 “자책은 자기소개이자, 이 시대의 문제아들에게 건네는 환영의 인사말로 기능한다.” 라고 얘기한 적이 있다. (사랑스러워질 필요는 없다!)
이제 다모는, 자책을 거름 삼아 일궈낸 다모의 세상에서,
귀여워할 구석이라곤 없는 다-모난 세상의 우리들을 기다리고 있다.
