To me, Better Off construes feeling stuck in unhealthy situations and patterns while imagining yourself breaking out of them. A space I’ve rested in and dreamt from countless times, often by accident and my own doing. There are patterns I formed early in life through trauma that are so delicate to navigate and difficult to escape. Patterns that both make me the sensitive, thoughtful person I am but encourage me to lose myself amongst the care and love of something other and bigger than just me. A survival instinct that ends up impeding my survival.
But each time I do escape, I flourish and bathe in the understanding and growth used to gently reckon with the next situation. Slowly, lesson by lesson, recognising it gets easier and the love I’ve always felt for myself flows, deeper than ever.
I feel so grateful to have contributed to creating such a beautifully psychedelic representation of some of these feelings with
@cody._.wood who gave the music video months of love, care and crafted the idea through his own rich meaning - particularly the edit of the synth data moshing trip as seen in this clip.
And of course to
@bandarianmusic for making such gorgeous, silky, soulful music as well as every dear friend who gave love and energy to this project.
