@peterjungphotography BUDDY RICH AND HIS KILLER FORCE BAND
Slingerland was providing Buddy for free their model 80N (1976-1978) revised Buddy Rich customized drum kit. Most of the major changes from the 80N (1968-1975) to the 80N revised included a bass drum diameter increase from 24" to 26". The cymbal stands have tilt mechanisms. The wood shells increased from 3 ply to 6 ply maple. Buddy was probably using the Slingerland 680 model. The drum hoops went from chrome covered brass to steel (Stick Saver hoops). The cymbal stand went to a wider base with black and gold labels. The handles were revised from vice grip to screw handles. The hi-hat stand base went from blue to a black colour. In my photo, Buddy used a 5.5x14" 5 ply chrome covered wood snare drum with 10 lugs and a newly designed TDR snare strainer. Slingerland was the world's best selling drum company at that time. After 1978, Slingerland and Buddy parted ways a second and last time. Buddy later had no drum company endorsements. During his final 5 years, he used from his collection his personal favourite the Slingerland Radio King drum kit at his concerts.
