Super cool performance on YouTube of Rachel Yoder (clarinet) and Greg Dixon (modular synth), who have long played under the name Odd Partials, performing a piece that Greg wrote partially inspired by the Hexadic System entitled, Hexadic Dreams. Here’s a little clip but the whole 10 minute piece is on YouTube and is awesome. The description on the video says:
Hexadic Dreams (for Rachel Yoder) is inspired by the number six as well as Ben Chasny's Hexadic System, an algorithmic musical composition system based upon drawing randomly from a standard deck of playing cards. Rather than drawing from a deck of cards, in Hexadic Dreams the modular synthesizer algorithmically makes decisions between six choices in a multitude of ways. Six different tones of the bass clarinet have been pre-recorded by Rachel and these tones are chosen randomly as well as processed randomly using granular synthesis (with Instruo Arbhar). Hexadic Dreams is written in a hexatonic scale (or six-note scale). A quartet of brass like tones plays hexatonic chords using two Buchla 258T oscillators. The clarinet is also mimicked with electronic oscillators, using pitch tracking and amplitude tracking techniques with the Disting EX Tracker algorithm. In addition, using a sustain pedal the clarinetist can (at will) play and write or insert new 1V/octave control voltages into a looping circular buffer using the U-he CVilization MuCorder algorithm.

Well it’s officially out today: Shackleton & Six Organs of Admittance - Jinxed By Being. You can check it out wherever you listen to things and also available on DBL LP on @dragcityrecords . Sam pretty much produced this thing and he was a fan of early era 6Ø so in a way this has the acid cult folk vibes of my early stuff with a real forward looking sound with bass, rhythms and vibes unique to Shackleton. Kind of surreal to finally have it in the world when it was recorded so long ago (started planning it Dec of 2020). Thanks all who have offered kind words on the release already. Huge thank you to @simonhenneman from the mighty @diminishedmen who surprised me with this incredible pedal at the show in Seattle. According to Simon it’s based on a Rat but with some mods such as germanium diodes, a tone control that has been dilated way back, plus less gain with more lows, that basically turn it into an incredible over drive pedal when the gain is down. It’s something that has been missing from my board and gives the guitar a real nice @mick.turner style break up which is something I’ve been looking for for a while. Thanks so much Simon! BTW everyone needs to check out the Diminished Men if you haven’t already. Their set in Seattle was one of the best sets of music I’ve heard this year from anyone and while I’m at it, gotta mention that @legoldston ’s set was pure sound bliss too, somehow gnarly but ethereal at the same time. So lucky to have been able to play a show with both.

As some know, UPS lost my goddamn merch before the Southern California shows last week, leaving me to just put out backstock. No good. But I finally got hooked up with my stuff and the Six Organs merch scene looking robust for the next 3 shows-
