“La scoperta del fuoco” by Santi Moix at the Contemporary Art Museum of Ibiza , on view until November 15, 2024. Curated by Elena Ruiz, the title of the exhibition belongs to a work by Tintoretto that refers to the birth of the symbol of life. Symbol that is also found in Santi Moix's installation; an epiphany of nature. It is a perimeter installation of color drawings on the theme of flora made on a material called tyvek that adheres to the wall. The installation is inspired by the Ibizan countryside in the spring, being an epiphany of nature, hence the title chosen by Elena Ruiz, inspired by a famous work by Tintoretto that alludes to the birth of the symbol of life. In addition, the exhibition also has 8 large-format pencil and charcoal drawings from the Menorca series. Author's notebooks and field drawings are also exhibited. The exhibition, entitled SEVENTIES like the decade to which all the works included date back but also as a tribute to the ninety-seven-year-old photographer’s over seventy years of artistic production, reveals an intense period full of reflections on photographic matter. (b.Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1948) He was one of the first artists to explore conceptual art in the 1970s, challenging traditional conventions and opening up new horizons of expression. Around the mid-1970s, the artist experienced his first significant artistic transformation by incorporating original paintings borrowed from museum collections into his installations. Thus came about the project Triptychos Post Historicus, held in Museums such as the Tate Gallery in London, the Louvre in Paris and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, to name but a few. In this project, artworks merge and coexist with everyday objects. The artist explores themes such as identity, memory, history, and the relationship between the individual and the collective. He often uses iconic images and symbols to communicate his messages, referencing works of art, historical figures and cultural archetypes. Archiviale_001 is the first step of research meant to piece together more than seventy years of history about private art galleries in Milan, their artistic choices, international relationships, avant-garde events, and encounters with artists. Sky Burial: Mat Collishaw Screening and Talk on Friday June 14, at Brunel Goods Shed fo SITE festival 2024. Mat Collishaw presents Sky Burial, an immersive video installation and meditation on life, death and humanity set to Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, which resonates with broader psychological and physical concerns in the contemporary world. Collishaw creates an ambiguous, dystopian atmosphere in which existing death rites from the East have been transposed to a Western environment. Located within an inner-city tower block, Sky Burial suggests that some form of catastrophe may have taken place, preventing normal Western burial procedures. The screening will be followed by a talk by Mat Collishaw on Friday 14 June from 6pm to 8pm.
